Surprising no one, least of all herself, Eleanor had come into work, taken care of a few of her usual tasks, and, barring any visitors or customers filtering in here and there, settled behind the counter with a nice cup of a tea and a book about cicadas.

And despite the best efforts on the attempts of the book to tout the benefit of eating cicadas or using them for other things, she did not, in fact, feel any regrets at all about choosing not to enjoy them on her pizza yesterday.

Plant Parenthood is open!

Kamala cheerfully came into the shop after class and gave a wave at Eleanor.

"Hi Eleanor! I have a confession," she said approaching the counter. "Soooo there was this thing where I put the plant on the table beside my bed, and I got up to answer the door and accidentally kicked the pot across the room and... well, long story short, I need a new plant."

Eleanor looked up from the passage she was reading with great skepticism about the healing properties of cicadas with both brows lifted.

"Well, that was a lot sooner than expected," she admitted, but, already, she was placing a marker in her book and closing it, setting it aside to get up and help.

"Well, it wasn't from lack of trying," Kamala admitted. "I watered only when it was necessary."

She over-watered the heck out of that plant.

"Were you looking to just repot it and try again?" Eleanor asked. "Or is it pretty much a lost cause at this point?"

"It did not really like being kicked," Kamala said looking a bit guilty. "So I'm thinking a fresh start."

Eleanor nodded. "I'm a pretty big fan of those," she admitted. "So..." She looked at Kamala for a moment before her attention shifted toward the same plants as before, "want to stick with the snake plant, do you think, or try something different this time?"

"I would like to go with a snake plant again," Kamala said with a slow nod. "I have a lot to make up for my actions and would like to pass it on to the next generation."

"Another snake plant it is, then," Eleanor said, with a grave nod back before going to pick another off the shelves and handing it over to Kamala. "For great plant redemption. And new care instructions to place it somewhere away from the door."

"And probably open windows," Kamala said, returning the nod. "Also: Do you have plant insurance. Like the kind you get for electronics?"

"Not that I know of," Eleanor admitted, her smile going a bit apologetic. "But that's not a bad idea. You should stop in sometime when my boss is in. Nell? I'm sure she could work something out for you."

"I may do that," Kamala said looking at the new snake plant. "If for some reason this one doesn't work out."

Odds are Kamala will be back for another planet.

"Well," said Eleanor, "for your sake and especially the sake of the plant, I really hope it does work out. Not that I mind seeing you. It honestly gets really boring in here most days..."

"Oh! Well, I don't mind stopping by," Kamala said, helpfully. "I probably need plant things. Like. Plant. Food?"

Was there such a thing?

"We do more than just plants, too," Eleanor offered, the question at the end of it bringing a faint chuckle out of her. "Or plant food. We also have stuff made from the plants. Lotions, teas, candles, Nell makes a lot of different jams and things like that sometimes, too. I'm a little more interested in the homeopathy aspects of it, but I'm still pretty new at it and still learning a lot, though."

“Okay, is this jam-jam or beauty jam?” Kamala asked, “because I made that mistake with my friends beauty jam facial thing and I think I can still taste it.”
