Needful Things; Friday
Harley had been woken up rudely this morning by something chiming loudly downstairs. Repeatedly, at about fifteen minute intervals. When she'd come downstairs to investigate, she'd eventually found the culprit in the clock section of the store: apparently a beautiful grandfather clock had decided it needed more attention, and had started striking on its own.
And not just on the hour, but also to mark the passing of every quarter increment of each hour.
And not just that, but it was doing so loudly. And despite her best (swear-filled, and rapidly more and more aggressive, but still best) efforts, Harley had not been able to get it either to stop or even to just do its thing more quietly.
So now there was a grandfather clock right outside the store, with a sign taped to it that said "FREE!!! PLEASE TAKE". And inside, Harley would be more than willing to hand out some discounts on the other clocks. They weren't misbehaving yet, but she didn't trust any of them right now.
