The Devil's Nest, Friday Night

It was... an extraordinarily ordinary night at the Nest.

Tiny wasn't doing anything weird. The specials were regular specials. And Lucifer was behind the piano, perhaps playing things in a bit of a more solemn mood.

But playing something, none the less.

"Oh, I've certainly heard stories," Lucifer said, with a little laugh. "Do feel free to tell some, as a matter of fact."

Remy leaned back in his chair and sipped his beer. "I grew up on the streets," he started. "Little red-eyed punk kid the locals called 'Le Diable Blanc'. One day, I'm out and about, looking for a good pocket to pick, and I see this belle fille being harassed by a tough. Le Diable Blanc fancied himself un chevalier blanc, so I stepped in to rescue her -- and got knocked on my ass. Turns out, la belle was the daughter of the leader of the Assassin's Guild. She didn't need me or anyone else fighting her battles for her."

Remy smiled, nostalgic and fond. "She kicked my ass for the next ten years, right up to the altar when we turned eighteen."

"Isn't that often how it turns out?" Lucifer said. "I don't know why so many people so doggedly believe love is some simpering bloody thing."

"S'pose that's what some folks want," Remy mused. "Doesn't interest me much, though. My current girl --" Remy, you and Rogue hadn't been 'together' since Utopia. "-- Our relationship is anything but 'simpering'."
