"What do you mean," Summer asked Tino in irritation, "I look different? No, I haven't done anything different or new. I've always looked like this!"

But he insisted on making an appeal that something was off, and Summer insisted that he was the one who was off, but when he just shrugged and commented on how she seemed less animated all of a sudden, she just narrowed her eyes and glared.

"Yeah, well," she stated, "fuck you, too, Tino."

She reached out an snatched the bottle in his hands from him. "And stop trying to put Malört in everything just because we're in Chicago!"

He was still going to insist she looked different today, though, and he was still going to keep trying to give everyone Malört.

Yup! It's a back room alright!

Literally years of trying to find a good PB for Summer, and then I just glance over and she's playing volleyball on TV, apparently.

Annie offered Summer -- who had always looked like this, yes, and in fact maybe she even looked a little better than usual, Tino! -- a somewhat-tired smile as she slid up onto a barstool and considered the specials.

"Can I have the first two shots, and a Shirley Temple?" she requested. "And how's it going?"

Like, yeah, okay, less animated, that was fair, but if anything, she was just feeling a lot less...flat, too, and more, like...lively? So there, Tino.

"Coming right up," said Summer, with a sympathetic smile to meet Annie's somewhat tired one, and she wasted no time in getting out the shots before starting in on the drink. "And it's going pretty well. Got to be a non-terrible Summer for the weekend for a change, so that was nice. You guys gets spared that fun this weekend?"

Maybe she had also gotten some sun? Was she also, perhaps, feeling...sportier?

"Oh, entirely, which is pretty nice. I don't think I could handle the twins solo all weekend if Daddy turned into a different version of himself." Besides, it would probably reopen up the whole question of whether he'd want to fight his alternate self, and that argument always made her head hurt. "Plus, like, shit's kind of going down at home, so probably a good thing I wasn't, like, totally tuned out."

More just...watching from a distance and making little plans.

All that hitting the gym, baybeeeee, finally paying off!

Summer's nose wrinkled a little as she went maybe slightly just a bit extra on those garnishes for Annie's Shirley Temple.

"I will say," she admitted, "I am extremely glad things have been the opposite of 'going down at home' for me. I mean, like, the last thing that even happened was when I had to do a Die Hard when my brother got trapped in a virtual reality video game."

She proudly set down Annie's drink/WORK OF ART.

"Do I want to know? Your world's crap or am I better off just not even?"

"Oh, the chick who can pop heads is almost definitely going to be the Vice President and probably has her sights set higher so her running mate's tapped my people to protect him from an assassination attempt, and Homelander's recruited the smartest person in the world to The Seven, which means someone in that tower can fucking use their brain, finally, so MM thinks he's probably close to figuring out where Diego and I keep disappearing to."

So, while the WORK OF ART got a little, admiring smile, she was also making quick work of her Bears shot, at least.

"So like. That's a thing." And it kind of only meant one thing, much as she hated it -- though this fun little touring dealio the island was doing was actually incredibly helpful. Felt like it bought them...well, usually a week with these things, at least.

Oh no, so much Malört.

Stark was going to try and ignore that for the moment and just focus on the important things. Like Summer who was absolutely her usual self and he was going to greet with the usual "hi" and quick kiss across the bar.

It was unavoidable. The island literally brought them to it this time!

But Summer met that greeting with a smile and a "Hi" back and started setting out the shots with no warning as to which one went with the warning. She was half tempted to actually switch them around a little like a carnival barker doing one of those cup games to make it even...

Well, no, okay, it was pretty clear which shot was which, when you got right down it it. But also, he should know her well enough to know that she'd absolutely make the Malört one look like a watermelon.

"How's it going?"

Summer squinted a little at Annie at the explanation.

"Are we talking, like...Barry kinds of Smartest Person in the World? Or Rick kinds of Smartest Person in the World?" she asked, because it was a very important distinction! "Since we're talking Homelander, though, I think I know when way we're leaning, especially if figuring out where you and Diego keep disappearing to is also a factor...."

Then that squinting turned into a frown.

A big frown.

"....you sure you don't want more than just those first two shots?" she checked.

"A little concerned about the island just... moving," Stark said with a shrug. "But it seems fine so far. Except perhaps for inspiring Tino too much. But still no nonsense from Anakin and no squirrels this morning. So...a good day so far. And you?"

He was going to start with the Malört shot. Get it over with.

He regretted his life choices almost immediately but at least he could chase away the flavor with other things quickly.

"I can't," Annie replied. "The usual thing but also -- like, I gotta help Diego pack once I'm back."

And now her smile wasn't just tired. It was apologetic, too.

"I've never met Sage so I'm not sure if she's Barry- or Rick-smart, but like -- she's at least, like, use capital letters 'The Smartest Person in the World' smart," she added, starting to work on the second shot. "MM has a mole in the tower, too, so he also like...his intel's good."

If only Annie knew who that mole was.

"I mean," Summer offered reassuringly, as she set down Stark's drink, too, "it has done this before. The last time I remember it being a lot weirder, too, like, different dimensions and shit, and I think it lasted all summer? It was at least a week or so in a different location. Right now it just seems to be checking out the US? Maybe it's in a patriotic spirit because of the Olympics or something, IDK. But I'm good. Pretty average Wednesday, really, except for the whole..." She waved her hand vaguely toward the door. "Being in Chicago thing."

Summer just sat with that for a moment, her frown pulling even deeper.

"Well, fuck, Annie," she seemed to conclude. Succinctly.

"Do you need me to help with packing? Or moving? Portal gun's great for that shit, and it'll leave less of a paper trail than portalocity while still getting you somewhere otherwise logistically impossible, you know?"

"That," Annie decided, eyes lighting up (not literally), "is a great idea. I think we're going to end up with the in-laws, which -- what could be harder to find than a bunch of people who keep destroying the universe and resetting it, right?"

Maybe this would lead to the babies' first apocalypse! Like, that they personally got to witness, anyway -- they'd already gone through one in utero.

"I wish we didn't have to," she added, a little sad as she lifted a shoulder. "But if we stay...."

Like, it also wouldn't just be bad news for them exclusively, if Homelander -- or Sage, really -- figured them out. It would be catastrophic for the whole island.

"I...I don't think I was here then?" Stark frowned. "I've heard about it. You're right."

He went for the blue shot next.

"Glad the day is going well so far though. I wonder where we'll end up next..."

Aww, they grow up so fast! And, like, Summer hadn't even had her first apocalypse until she was, like, seventeen!

"...yeah," Summer nodded, expression all sympathy and understanding all cozied up with regret and sadness. Annie didn't need to get into any of the gritty details; she definitely got it. And, like, sure, Fandom could more than hold its own, but that didn't mean it should have to....especially if it was also probably safer for the kids to not stick around somewhere as...central, dimensionality speaking...as this place.

She shook her head lightly.

"Whatever you need, An," she said. "You know I've got you."

You know, there were few things that seemed less pleasant to Atton Rand than to talk to Summer while he was going through a rough patch. But he'd managed to succesfully blow it off with Harley, and not texting her at least this Wednesday would probably throw up red flags, and...

Sigh.

So there was an enthusiastic response! But it had been a little slow and she found out one of her bestie had to move away for safety reasons because her world was filled with superpowered crazy people, so, yeah, those red flags were pretty miniscule at the moment.

but hey! I got stuck as another Summer for a weekend and she wasn't completely lame! She didn't even try to eat my cat! So that was cool.

How's things wif u?

Well, at least Summer had given him an easy permission structure for an honest answer without the details.

meh, Atton texted. what kind of summer?

Smooth.

"Ohmygod," Summer realized, "what if the island is, like, relocating? What if it wants to move to, like, So-Cal or something? I would just die."

A pause.

"Figuratively," she clarified, in case Stark started to worry. "And, like, in a good way. But if it goes up north,we might have to nuke it unless it keeps going to Vancouver."

Look, she didn't care if they were different dimensions, she was not going to be happy with Fandom being just outside of where she was from.

"All the jello, please!"

Harley didn't even have a reason (there were so many things she did in life that had no obvious reason behind them), she just felt like making that her initial order.
