When Steph opened the front door this morning, she got hit in the face by an inexplicable stack of flying index cards; she couldn't say for sure, but from the way Little Bot shrilled and went for his trusty dented Cypher rulebook one of the gremlins was most likely the culprit. Anyway, she decided to take it as a suggestion for the theme of the day.

Thus the display of card-based games, mostly involving cute animals or fantastic entities.

Was Steph in a mood for Vietnamese? Because Vi was in a mood for clinging Vietnamese, and duly showed up with iced coffees and an abundance of rice paper rolls and spring rolls and various dipping sauces.

There was a comical moment where Steph was almost sniffing eagerly at the air like a puppy, and then her eyes lit up at the sight of the iced coffees.

Okay, and also at Vi, but that was kind of a given.

She put up the last couple of placards for the game display in a hurry and went to clear off the counter. "Have I mentioned I love you?"

"Always happy to hear it again," Vi said, putting down the coffees and the bags of food on the counter and reaching for Steph. "Right back at you."

"Hi," Steph said, easily leaning into her. "How's your day so far?"

"Quiet," Vi said, resting her chin on the top of Steph's head. "Maybe too quiet."

She didn't care to have too much time alone with her thoughts.

Steph, who knew exactly what that 'quiet' implied, made a soft noise of sympathy.

"Break week sucks that way, yeah. I should've planned a trip, I'm sorry."

"So long as I've got you, I don't care about trips," Vi told her, like they didn't already spend a lot of time living in each other's pockets.

Like the load of laundry Steph had done yesterday (that was still sitting in a basket on the floor) wasn't half Vi's.

"Yeah, but I can't keep you distracted all the time," she pointed out mildly. "And it's fun turning you loose on a mountain bike or something, so I can watch and yell wildly inappropriate encouragement."

Considering Vi's tendency to treat their clothes as communal property, it was possibly more than half.

"You don't need much encouragement to do that," Vi said wryly.

Actually, given that Steph had decided she liked stealing Vi's clothes just as much as Vi liked stealing hers, it was pretty much just their collective wardrobe by now.

"No, but I do like watching you work your muscles in new and fun ways," she said, waggling her eyebrows.

Although Vi found it a lot easier to get into Steph's metaphorical pants than her literal ones.

"I have no idea what you could mean by that," Vi replied, pure and innocent as the driven snow. Ignore the grin.

Funny, Steph found it equally easy to get into Vi's literal and metaphorical pants!

"I mean," Steph said, smirking, "that finding new and fun jock things for you to do pays off for both of us in the long run."

It was almost like Steph had these skinny limbs or something...

Vi sighed very dramatically. "Sometimes I feel like I'm just a piece of meat to you."

She didn't sound particularly upset by that.

Steph made an affronted noise as she reached for her iced coffee.

"Excuse you, you're more than just a very tasty piece of meat."

"I'm also an excellent coffee delivery system," Vi added cheerfully, planting a kiss on Steph's shoulder.

"Fast, reliable, and cute as hell." Steph slid her free arm around Vi's waist. "The importance of that last point absolutely cannot be overstated."

"And I can be paid in food," Vi said, then did a dramatic double take at the bags on the counter. "And would you look at that."

Steph snickered. "You're such a fucking dork," she said, not sounding at all like that was a bad thing. "Are you paying yourself in food now?"

Vi reached for one of the spring rolls and started wrapping it in lettuce. "Unless you have any better ideas," she said, wriggling her eyebrows.

"Only if you can take a rain check for after work." Steph snagged a rice paper roll, stuck it between her teeth, and waggled her eyebrows right back at Vi. "Because if so, you're gonna get a really nice payday."

Vi laughed and dipped her roll and lettuce package in the sauce. "I could let you put it on your tab."

"Awww, would you?" Steph fluttered her eyelashes at Vi, and yes, she knew it looked ridiculous especially while she was chewing. That was the effect she was going for. "You know I'm good for paying it back on time."

"I know you are." Vi chewed thoughtfully, trying not to laugh with her mouth full. "I don't do it for just anyone."

"Oh good." Steph licked a bit of sauce away from the corner of her mouth. "I'd hate to have to get jealous."

Vi reached up to wipe the spot Steph had just licked with her thumb. "You're never gonna have to worry about that," she promised.
