[the_ghoul]

The Ghoul tended to come and go as he pleased, and it figured the one time he showed up to his job there was nonsense going on. When he opened up one storage closet it was filled to the brim with hockey masks. Then he had to sign off on a shipment that turned out to be just rusty machetes.

"All right."

Let's just hope the next shipment wasn't horny teens or giant freaks with mommy issues.

Maybe everyone should just avoid the pond for a little bit. Just a bit.

Now Logan wasn't actually that good at being a good, good social boy or anything, but he did come along to investigate something that just smelled weird. Because the closest thing to a ghoul he'd run across was, of course, Deadpool. Many, many Deadpools.

And as such, it was important to check it out for his own sanity.

"Huh," he said once he stepped into the shop.

Wow, so good at this.

"Something confusing you, friend?" the Ghoul asked, idly picking up a machete. With it being so rusty it probably wouldn't even slice bread.

"Expected someone else," Logan replied, eyeing the machete for a moment. Because, look, he was used to shit trying to kill him and a friendly little island didn't change that.

"Well it's just me here." Probably. Considering the date it was probably best not to assume. Jason's a wily one.

[theworst_verine]

Just chilling in that pond. Waiting for those pesky teens to get closer.

"Noted," he replied dryly. "The fuck are you?"

Ahhh. Polite behavior. Couldn't be him.

"A bounty hunter," the Ghoul replied, knowing damn well what this guy meant. "What the fuck are you?"

"Sure as hell not a good bounty for one."

Oh, the posturing.

[the_ghoul]

"Oh I knew that by lookin' at you," the Ghoul drawled. "You look like damaged goods."

Pot, meet kettle.

"You don't have a fucking nose, bub."

Just exchange friendship brackets already, god. Maybe the Taylor Swift ones.

"Thank god for that," he said with a grin. "You don't look like you smell too good either."

[theworst_verine]

"And you smell like poison and cancer."

Kind of?

Look, smelling shit wasn't an exact science!

[the_ghoul]

"Are you, like, half-dog or something?" He had heard of stranger things out there in the world, but usually mutants were uglier and fans of miniguns.

Miniguns was really more The Punisher's thing? But he wasn't really in the budget. Also, Blade was right fucking there if you wanted gun violence.

"No, I'm a mutant."

A very pretty one under all that scruff and crippling manpain. Really buying into Kitty saying people were cool about that shit here. Don't make it weird.

If the Ghoul had eyebrows, this is where he'd be lifting them up. "Well, shit. You don't look like any mutant I've ever seen. They're usually more green. Don't speak English too good either, usually."

Yeah, the lack of eyebrows really was a detriment to him.

"The hell kind of mutants are you dealing with?"

Most of them were blue. Blue was the color of choice.

[the_ghoul]

"The kind that don't chat before shooting," he replied. "So you're a very rare mutant indeed."

"Not real big on shootin' folks, personally," Logan muttered, letting out an annoyed little sigh. Then gesturedat the Ghoul's whole being basically. "You gonna explain all that?"

[the_ghoul]

"I was hit by a lot of radiation and had the bad luck of it not killing me." God, he wished he was one of those oddly posed skeletons sitting on toilets he saw all the time.

[theworst_verine]

Ahh, the dream.

"Yeah, that does sound like real bad luck," Logan had to admit. And he had a name for the smell! Radiation. Nice. "Guessin' this is one of those timeline things?"

Unless you were just the shittiest Hulk ever.

[the_ghoul]

The Ghoul nodded. "You're not gonna want to be here in 2077."

Especially in Maryland. The Capital Wasteland was just all green and brown 2008 graphics.

What about Canada? Was Canada still good?

Logan had a moment of consideration on if that'd actually kill him. Probably? Yeah, probably. "Thanks for the warning. Got another fifty years or so."

But he'd inevitably end up part of some secret resistance movement or some shit. Because his life.

Stock up on the RadAway and bullets and you'll be fine. Maybe.

"Who'd you think I was?" the Ghoul asked. It was hard to mistake that mug for somebody else's.

And bottlecaps. Those damn bottlecaps would be just what you need.

"Some asshole." Who had a nose. But the whole burn victim thing... spot on.

[the_ghoul]

"Sorry for not being the asshole you're lookin' for." He would not deny being a asshole.

[theworst_verine]

Logan waved him off for that. "I'll live. You got a name?"

[the_ghoul]

"Not anymore," he said easily. "They just call me the Ghoul."

He didn't much look like a Cooper anymore anyway.

"The Ghoul?" Logan, you went by The Wolverine. Glass fucking houses.

[the_ghoul]

"That's right," the Ghoul said. "You got a name?"

[theworst_verine]

"Logan." Because saying he was a mutant was more than enough sharing for today! "Apparently I work at the book store."

He really seemed the literary type, didn't he?

[the_ghoul]

The tilt of the Ghoul's head indicated that he was also a bit confused by that, narrative.

"Apparently," he repeated with a small smile. "That's also how I work here."

At least he looked like he should be handling guns. Logan looked like he might have trouble with Goodnight Moon.

Rude, but accurate.

"Place is just like that, huh?"

[the_ghoul]

"At first I thought it was maybe some sort of a cult or hippie commune?" the Ghoul said. "But it turns out it's just people don't give a fuck what you do for the most part."

Logan's expression was one of 'oh thank god, someone else sees how fucking weird this is'. Because it really was extra weird here.

"How long you been here?"

[the_ghoul]

"Oh, fuck, I guess since early summer?" he said. "Just wandered in here with a companion of mine."

Not a friend. Certainly not.

"This place is a hell of a lot better than where we came from, so we decided to stay for a bit."

Nooo, nooo. Don't be silly. For sure not a friend.

"With the radiation and all," he replied dryly. You for sure beat Logan on coming from a shitty location! "Your companion look like you?"

[the_ghoul]

"Naw, she looks like a regular kid," the Ghoul said. "Except for her one finger. There's one that looks like it belonged to a corpse."

Because it had belonged to a corpse.

"Better than your everything looking like a corpse, I suppose," he said, gesturing to his own face.

[theworst_verine]

"Not wrong there," Logan agreed. "I'll keep an eye out for that."

Or, you know, the smell of gross.
