Ching Tai, Thursday Evening

Lydia knew, of course, that Singapore and China were not one and the same, but Mr. Raiden had said that there were Chinese influences on the cuisine of the former nation, so she had hoped, when booking Ching Tai for tonight's Supper Club, that it might already be somewhat familiar. Only time would tell. Certainly it smelled delicious.

She did hope she wouldn't be expected to eat with chopsticks, although she did suppose that getting to watch her figure out how would be most amusing for the other diners.

Truthfully, Ignis' main problem with chopsticks was that he often had to tamper down the urge to just idly twirl them at time.

The real question then remained as to whether or not he was the type of person to bring his own fancy chopsticks with him to ask restaurant, and the answer was...

For Supper Club? Absolutely. In part due to reputation, and in another part because he felt it would be a good way to start the conversation if anyone did want help learning how to use them.

"Those are some fancy chopsticks you have there," Yelena noted, because narrative demanded it. "I take it you come here often?"

"Actually, no," Ignis admitted. "Hardly at all, as a matter of fact. But I do greatly enjoy this style of cuisine, and I figured, what better time to get some use out of them, then right here for Supper Club?"

There was a faint smile on his face, and he offered out a hand.

"It's Yelena,isn't it?" he asked. "I believe I recognize you from Radio. Ignis Scientia. A pleasure to make your acquaintance."

"Well, then," said Ignis, who was now most certainly going to be giving quite the 'idle' show at the supper club table that evening with that sort of incentive to curb those bad habits of his, "allow me to at least pre-emptively recompense you for some of my accrued debt now."

And with his hand sliding down that familiar path across her back and to her hip, Ignis leaned in to kiss Liliana, a lingering one that promised the quality she could expect for further payments.

"I trust you'll be nothing but painstakingly accurate in your record-keeping."

"You have your own?" Rey asked, surprised. It had not occurred to her that it could do that.

Not only was it a thing you could do, but Rey in particular could even be incredibly on theme with them!

"I do," Ignis confirmed, with a nod and a small smile. "A very thoughtful gift some someone, and the best way to appreciate a gift is to get good use out of them, in my opinion.

"And, forgive me if I'm mistaken," sometimes, it was tricky to remember, when you didn't hear some voices as often, "but have we met before?"

Clearly the only way to get over pickle jello shots? Eating Chinese food. And joining up with the supper club seemed to be the best way to achieve that goal as well as socializing with someone other than her dog.

So after work, Yelena was here and going through the menu trying to think of what sounded good to her.

"Well hello, darling," Liliana said to the woman she didn't recognize. "Have we met? I've become something of a homebody, I'm afraid, now that the weather has turned."

The hand she extended for a shake was unnaturally chilly, which might have something to do with it.

"Hello co-worker and former three minute date," Yelena said with a smile. "It was interesting but today all I tasted was pickle jello. The shots I don't regret but the lingering pickle taste I can do without."

Liliana had not spent enough time on Kamigawa to learn to use chopsticks well, and hadn't done much to refine the practice while on Earth, either.

So her plan was to eat with the utensils familiar to her, thank you, rather than look like an idiot in front of everyone.

...Unless almost everybody was going to be learning, in which case, she'd decide in the moment.

Rey was familiar with the food here but hadn't really ever eaten in here. Blame them probably being the best/worst at over delivering. And she even sort of knew how to eat with chopsticks!

Mostly. Noodles could be tricky.

The hard part was looking at the menu to figure out what to get.

Lydia did so hope things continued to go well with this little gathering, although if she looked rather more nervous than usual this week, it was at least half 'chopsticks, what?' and half worrying about Arden, who she had somehow missed a text from yesterday. So if she had her nose in her phone she was either watching a tutorial on how to use chopsticks or trying to find out the correct etiquette of replying late to a text from an ill friend.

"Oh, Miss Skywalker!" Lydia said. "Thank you! I know you suggested sushi, but I wasn't sure Flint would be here and he's not allowed to miss it apparently they were booked. Who would have thought?"

Between a week of Boston's, shall we say, late-night odes to the loss of Kitty and his frustrating morning calling his family, Adrian was not in the best of moods when he made it to Ching Tai tonight. A walk through the park had helped, laying hand on every tree he passed, but he still wasn't exactly feeling peppy today.

He almost considered skipping it, but a good meal with people whose company he enjoyed was probably exactly what he needed to help counteract his mood.

Also, going home to listen to Boston's caterwauling would probably be the opposite of helpful here.

"Well, if it isn't my favorite hermit with a talking cat," Yelena said, a teasing grin forming as she noticed Adrian's not-so-cheerful mood. "What's the matter, Adrian? You look like somebody stole your favorite pair of black pants?"

Rey did her best not to read up on people's vibes, but it was hard to miss he seemed off from the last couple times she'd seen him.
