Trooper Station, Friday

Today was one of those days where, thanks to poor sleep the night before, there was nothing Watts wanted more than to curl up under his desk and attempt a nap. He was, however, persevering. Ostensibly having work to do and all that. Not to mention a lunch date.

Llewellyn sleeping poorly tended to mean Steven did as well. But fortunately Steven was used to going on little sleep so the effects weren't as bad for him.

Lunch required a small amount of preparation. So when they got back from Stark's class Steven peeled off from Llewellyn to go into the breakroom. Various things set up to heat or cook as needed, and Steven went back to Llewellyn's office to pop his head in the door.

"Won't be a few moments," Steven said. "Doing all right in the meanwhile?"

Watts, who had his chin propped up in his hand and was watching a tiny horse methodically push pencils off the edge of his desk one by one, blinked blearily at Steven. "Hmmm? Ah. Yes."

"I'll get us some coffee as well," Steven decided. He went back to the break room to pour them both a cup and fix it how they liked. Or at least as much of how they liked given what was available in the break room.

Steven came back in a few moments and put the cups on Llewellyn's desk, hopefully out of reach of any tiny horses. "Here we are. Just a moment more on our food."

"I love you," Watts said emphatically. To Steven, not the coffee.

"I love you too," Steven said.

There was a sound of a microwave beeping.

"Ah! Just a tick," Steven told him before heading towards the break room again. "I need a few moments to put it all together."

"I'm not going anywhere," Watts said with a somewhat wan smile.

Steven came back a few moments later with bowls of tomato soup. There were croutons floating on top.

"Right, here's the first part," Steven said, placing the bowls on Llewellyn's desk. "Back in a tick with the second."

Watts visibly perked up at the sight of the soup. "There's more?" he asked, pleased and surprised.

"Yes!" Steven said, perking up. "It's fun as well. Or, I hope it is. Here, give us a moment."

Steven went to the break room again and, in a few moments, came back with plates with the rest of their lunch on them. He presented them with a flourish.

"Here we are! I hope you like it."

"Oh!" Watts said, clearly delighted. "What's all this? It looks wonderful." Warm and comforting, just the sort of thing for a day like today.

"That's your bread," Steven said as he took his seat. Perhaps it went without saying that Steven only ever used Llewellyn's bread, but still. "But you'll never guess the name of it! Smooching mushrooms on toast."

Steven had picked the recipe entirely because of the name, yes.

"Smooching mushrooms?" Watts echoed, grinning. "Is that a directive?"

Steven grinned. "I like to think so."

He had closed the door to Llewellyn's office behind him now that all the parts of lunch were in place.

"Well, then," Watts scooted his own chair a little closer. "Shall we oblige?"

"Yes, please," Steven said. He scooted closer as well and leaned in for a kiss.

"Hello, you," Watts murmured, as if they had not literally just been on a class excursion together.

"Hello, you," Steven murmured back. "I hope you like your lunch."

"It's made by you," Watts said. "I'm certain I shall."

"It seemed like it might not be enough for a full meal, so that's why the soup as well," Steven said. "I think we may have made the soup before? Together, perhaps?"

Watts nodded. "Yes." he affirmed. "I remember."

He took a bite of the toast, letting out a satisfied groan as he chewed.

Steven started to smile with relief he'd remembered correctly about the soup. Then a bigger smile at Llewellyn's reaction. "Good? Tasty amongst the kisses?"

"Ver' tasty," Watts affirmed, once he'd swallowed enough to be able to speak.

"Wonderful!" Steven finally helped himself to a bite of his own. He'd of course tried the mushrooms when he'd made them, but it was another thing to see they'd survived the time it took to become lunch. To say nothing of combining them with the toast.

Steven nodded as he chewed. "Good experiment," he said, his voice a mumble as his mouth was full.

"And the soup pairs wonderfully," Watts added, after slurping down a good sized spoonful.

"Thank you," Steven said, looking pleased. "I thought it might. Not too heavy on its own. And nice and warm. Good for the weather."
