FANDOM HOLIDAY FAIR, the Park, Tuesday All Day

The polar bears had spent the fast few days setting up in the park. On Tuesday morning, they were finally ready to reveal their handiwork...

A large open tent had been set up from one side of the park to another, fuzzy white cloth strung between the poles to give the sense that the ceiling itself was made of soft snow. Beneath, little booths had been set up, decorated in stars and little lights.

The pond was frozen; two particularly enterprising flamingos had somehow set up a booth beside it, renting out ice skates to anyone who would want any.

And everywhere the booths weren't, there were seats with soft pillows and crackling fires. A soft dusting of glitter hung in the air.

Polar bears are standing at the ready with hot chocolate to shove at anyone who comes into the tent. But there's probably other people, too.

Silvery glitter clung to Liliana's loose hair, to her cheeks and eyelashes, and to the heavy mantle she was wearing as she walked inside the tent, accepting a warm mug of cocoa from a very large bear.

"Thank you, darling," she told the apex predator with a pat on its overlarge paws. "Ooh, is that a hint of peppermint?"

Ignis' own attempts to brush off any silvery glitter from his own hair and shoulders eventually ceased as they were quickly determined to be utterly futile.

"I daresay," he murmured, once he realized a mug was being offered out to him as well and brought it closer, "a bit more than just a hint, really..."

But his nose tended to be more sensitive to that sort of thing, and his ears also managed to pick up on how that might have sounded.

"Which is a particularly lovely and festive touch, might I add," he amended, with a respectful and grateful nod to the alleged apex preditor dolling out drinks.

Liliana laughed, tucking her arm around his more firmly, and leaned in to brush a chilly kiss over his cheek. "We both know you're just politely holding that until we reach where they're selling coffee anyway," she teased.

It was rare when Gladio was thinking it was worth his while to get good use out of a shirt, but that was the thing about a good Christmas icon sweater, right? Seemed perfect for this sort of thing, and a great way to experience a little more of this holiday that he never even heard about for the longest time but actually was kind of nice.

Especially when it involved people he liked an awful lot, too.

He was mostly looking forward to the food. Obviously.

"And after the skating we can sit and have hot chocolate and you can eat all the food!" Nell said cheerfully. She was warmly dressed, even defaulting to her skirty pants in deference to the upcoming skating.

"Some of the food," Gladio corrected with a chuckle. "Word on the street is I'm gonna wanna make sure to leave plenty of room," he patted his stomach for extra emphasis, "for some allegedly impressive meal tomorrow."

Yelena was walking Fanny through the fair, grabbing a bit of mulled wine to drink. After spending the morning being forced to listen/watch to her TV play "It's a Wonderful Life" for the 437th time this year getting outside of the house was absolutely necessary.

There is a burly German man here. He will make you bratwurst in a bun. Or currywurst, if you must.

He will stare at you stoically the entire time.

You can get cookies in all kinds of varieties here, from this sweet-looking red panda. Why is a red panda baking cookies? Why are you asking questions?

Or maybe you're in the mood for boozy chocolates. Or chocolates shaped like clockwork pieces. Or a priced-down giant advent calendar?

If it can be made out of chocolate, the oddly-familiar looking chocolatier in this booth has probably made it. Check out his wares.

One of the Magpie Emporium's wargaming regulars, Arlene, ran the usual weekly painting workshops at the store and had offered to run one during the fair. What, like Steph was going to turn that down when she could in fact go all out and make it a really good one?

There were a couple of tables all laid out with supplies: paints and washes, brushes, wet palettes and water cups, paper towels, and mini painting handles. Another table had basing supplies and glue ready to go should people want to add realistic terrain around their figures' feet as a finishing touch.

And there were, of course, a plethora of different holiday themed minis to choose from, ranging from standard Santas and elves and reindeer to Krampus and, well, some truly unique ones courtesy of Arlene and her wargaming group.

Boc usually avoided the park when there was something like this going on, but even he could tell that things were a bit quieter on the island this last week or so. Which meant that he felt slightly more comfortable with risking it, to take a look at what sort of foods there might be and if there were any places he could just sort of be out of the way and observe.

And then he saw the yarn.

Oh, and he was torn, between now feeling very glad he'd come and thinking he'd be much better off if he hadn't!
