The Magpie Emporium, Thursday (12/26)
Steph's Christmas had been nice; she didn't usually make a huge deal out of the holiday, since that had been her mom's thing and it never quite felt right to go all out without her, but there'd been calls from friends and family across the country mixed in with her festivities at home with Vi. Tomorrow night they'd be heading out to spend the weekend in Haven Springs, and she still had to pack for that, but for today there was work and then tonight a quick gig in Baltimore (which she could do because her favorite streaming series was on holiday hiatus).
It was too early to take down the lights and wreaths, she decided, especially since Saffron was curled up adorably in a wreath that had fallen onto the floor and she couldn't go disturbing the cat, now, could she? Besides, she had a New Year's Eve party game display to put together and inventory to do, and why did it all feel like an interminably long time until her vacation started?
So. Busy day, but not so busy that Steph wasn't going to take time out to send a quick text to Vi as soon as she heard someone mention it was Boxing Day.
Hey. Hey, guess what? Today's your holiday.
No, she did not care if technically Boxing Day wasn't really a thing here. Like she was going to pass up the opportunity for a dorky joke?

It is? Did you roll on the birthday table?
No,
unlike her player, weeping in Australian retail workershe'd not heard it called that yet.no subject
As if Steph would deprive her players of the fun of making a roll for themselves. She avoided making secret rolls as much as humanly possible whenever she ran Pathfinder; she'd hardly take away the chance for Vi to let the dice pick a random birthday for herself by making that roll.
Just the day after xmas is a big deal in a bunch of other countries? Boxing day. Not actually about punching people though, sorry
A couple of seconds later:
i just think i'm hilarious

Somehow, Vi didn't even need tone markers to make that read sarcastic.
Dork.

You love it. 😘

Had Vi spent far too long figuring out how the selfie camera worked just so she could send Steph a photo of her blowing a kiss back? Yes.
no subject
omg i love you so much you're the literal cutest.
Look, she knew Vi had never really bothered with her selfie camera before. Also congrats on becoming Steph's new lockscreen, Vi.

You're making me blush.
This was the first step down the road to getting thirst traps sent to you, Steph. The narrative would ask if you wanted that, but it already knew the answer.
no subject
Also cute as hell. I see no issue here.
Please. As if she wouldn't want anything that was a new way for the two of them to be adoring idiots about each other.
no subject
I want you to remember that later.
Which was pretty much what the narrative thought.
no subject
How could I ever forget your adorable face, o light of my life? You are coming for lunch, right?
She already knew the answer to that question, sure. But why pass up the chance to hand Vi a good joke setup?
no subject
Planning to. And you should too.
Was it really a joke when you intended to follow through, though?
no subject
Exactly what I was hoping to do, as it happens. Along with the message, Steph sent a selfie of herself waggling her eyebrows, the tip of her tongue poking out of the corner of her mouth. Can't wait.
Okay, maybe not a joke so much as an opportunity for (expected) innuendo, which did tend to be the way they flirted.

It was probably Vi's lack of familiarity with the camera that had her sending back a close up of her mouth while idly chewing on her thumb. Probably.
They knew what they liked. Sorry, not sorry, anyone who had to be around them.
no subject
Tease. No, Steph hadn't made up her mind whether that had been an accidental choice on Vi's part or not, but given her personal opinion about Vi's mouth she felt it was a suitable response either way.
At least the narrative was apologizing, because they sure wouldn't.
no subject
I have no idea what you're talking about. Never had a text message been more innocent. Never.
Apologising would require shame.
no subject
Yeah I bet you don't. Steph didn't need a picture to imagine exactly the kind of look that had been on Vi's face while typing that. You would never try and get me all wound up or anything on PURPOSE.
And they didn't know what shame was, so... yeah.
no subject
Of course I wouldn't. It was that exact look on Vi's face as she sent that. I don't try, I succeed.

Someone's sure of herself. This time, the selfie that Steph sent showed her with one eyebrow raised and her best "bring it" look. Am I supposed to think that's hot?
...um, Steph, you did and both of you knew it.
no subject
Vi's reply took a while to come through, almost like she was taking her time figuring out a shot that properly showed off her arms. I mean, yeah. Kinda.
no subject
Steph's selfie this time was a brief video clip of her licking her lips and staring hungrily at the camera. Only 'kinda,' babe?
Great, if this became a thing they were going to be even more insufferable now.
no subject
Wouldn't want to brag. Somehow, Vi managed to send a shot of her shirt riding up and showing off a sliver of abs with that.
You wouldn't think it was possible, and yet...
no subject
Steph was relieved that Vi wasn't on hand to hear the way she whined when she saw that picture, but the one she sent back was of herself with flushed cheeks, biting her knuckle.
I'm starving. How soon are you getting here?
Yeah, they were overachievers like that.
no subject
Vi had exactly the kind of smirk Steph was imagining as she typed Soon. Nearly finished making lunch.
If only they put the same kind of effort into talking with each other.
no subject
I knew you loved me. The gesture Steph was making with her fingers in front of her mouth was best left to the imagination in a public comm.
Hell, they could put that effort into making themselves face up to what they needed to talk about, for a start.
no subject
I do. It was also doing some wonderful things to Vi's imagination as she finished packing the food. On my way.
They could. But they wouldn't.
no subject
There wasn't a caption with the next picture Steph sent, but considering that it was a shot of her looking goofy as all hell with her chin propped up on one hand and an exaggerated expression of longing on her face as she stared toward the shop door, it really didn't need one.
They were incorrigible in so many ways, basically.
