Ingrid had looked at Bucky for a long moment when he'd come into the theater today.

"What? You know I said I'd be back."

(Yeah, yeah, it was obviously about the haircut, not his latest return from a stay in Wakanda. Let an old man have his fun.)

Wait around, get your candy, talk to Bucky manning the counter.

Steve would call it keeping his ears open (others might call it low-key stalking), but he'd heard Bucky's name pop back up again on the radio, so he headed over to the theater to see if maybe he'd get lucky.

And if that hair wasn't a flashback to the Commandoes...he shook his head quickly and covered the misstep with a smile. "Hey there."

And then Logan had to just kind of squint at the guy. Because, minus the beard and Mad Max setting, that looked a lot like that kid Wade got killed. Sweet, baby boy, Johnny Storm.

Rest in peace, Johnny.

But he was pretty sure the smell wasn't right. Pretty sure.

Steve was used to being squinted at. "Hello," he said. "I'm Steve Rogers."

Okay, that was fair. But was it for the reason that he watched a very foulmouthed doppelganger get skinned alive?

"Hey."

Nailed it on the friendly small town vibe, Logan. Nailed it.

Truly killing it, random nameless stranger!

"Are you new here?"

LOOK. SOMETIMES YOU WERE A BROODING LONER.

"New enough that people keep askin' me that," Logan grumbled. Because he was just so surly.

"Well, it's nice to meet you--" Steve said, waiting for a name.

He was waiting for maybe a few beats too long before Logan finally allowed, "Logan."

Was that so hard? Yes. Yes, it was.

Don't you dare say your name was Johnny Storm. He'd be super annoyed.

"It's very nice to meet you, Logan," Steve said with an earnest smile. "What brings you to the island?"

"Socializing." Ohhh yeah. Couldn't you tell? "Apparently I need some help there."

He did.

"Well, you're out," Steve said. "That's a good start!"

Granted, he was out at a movie theater where everyone would shut up and it would be dark in the room, but still! Progress of some kind!

Welcome to every time Bucky caught a glimpse of his own reflection over the past week. There were pros and cons to this haircut.

"Hey, Steve," he replied, a wry tilt to his tiny smile. "Come on, out with it."

"Oh, there's so many choices," Steve said with an answering grin. "Think I'll go with it's nice to see your face, pal."

"Good one," Bucky replied wryly. He was not going to be repeating what his Steve had gone with, lest it give this one ideas.

Instead, he gave into the self-conscious urge to scratch at the side of his head. "I know, it's an adjustment."

"It's hair," Steve said with a grin. "It'll grow back if you want it to, but I like it." His grin deepened. "Not that you've ever wanted my opinion on style."

"Way I remember it, you didn't have much to give," Bucky replied, the gentlest tease. "Needed to keep what little you had all to yourself."

Steve laughed. "I remember it the same way, unfortunately."

"Must mean I'm right," Bucky huffed, "for once."

Now, of course he'd thought he'd been right about plenty, and often, as a young man. But that sort of confidence was only... vaguely on its way to returning to him.

"You're bound to be right occasionally," Steve agreed teasingly.

"Here and there," Bucky replied, as he let his hand fall again. "How've you been? Jesse says I didn't miss much, with the island."

"It was pretty quiet," Steve said with a smile. "Tony and I spent time in Brooklyn and even there no one tried to take over the world. It's a nice change."

Logan was being 'social' today. And by 'social' he meant going to a movie all by himself and not at all attempting to interact with anyone.

Nailed it.

But he did have to pause at the candy to consider if it was worth it or not before going to watch something he might have seen when it came out the first time. If he could remember all that shit.

Bucky gave him a small nod.

"Looking for something in particular?"

He got one of those Cool Guy™ little chin nods in response and super friendly grunt. "This isn't one of those theaters that has drinks, right?"

Logan, c'mon.

A vampire count expresses interest in a new residence and a real estate agent's wife.
