The Magpie Emporium, Monday [20/01]

There was a marked lack of baked goods at the store today. There were, however, a shipment of figures that had just arrived, all of the one character. Mostly cheap minis, but there was a very large, heavy and expensive one, and a slightly smaller but still large and expensive figure, both in the same outfit.

Now, Vi wasn't that familiar with the show this was from but..."Didn't they only wear that in one episode?"

"That isn't even the most colorful outfit," Steph opined, frowning slightly at the statues. "Come on, gotta mix it up a little."

There might not be baked goods, but there was coffee, freshly made courtesy of her morning class and fixed up just the way she knew Vi liked it, and a couple of steaming containers of pho because it just felt like a day for nice hot comforting noodle soup.

"I bring plenty of steaming liquids, and yet none of them are the hottest thing here."

She liked to think she was really smooth.

"Yeah," Vi said with a little frown as she took the coffee. "It's not a bad look, but still..." She trailed off and took a sip of her coffee.

"I know, I'm looking at her." So did Vi. So did Vi.

"Not my favorite. I mean, it's cool, but it's not, like, the iconic look, you know?" Steph leaned over to steal a kiss. "Pretty cool of them to make it, though."

Even though she was personally of the opinion that there should be more merchandise of this character's girlfriend, dammit.

"I always know where to go if I need a little ego boost," she added with a grin. "Hey, babe. Quiet morning so far?"

"Yeah," Vi said, happily letting her kisses be stolen and then stealing them back. "I mean, I guess, this at least this shows off her back." Because Steph wasn't the only one who liked a well muscled back.

The canon girlfriend or the crossover one?

"Always," Vi told her. "And yeah, just me and my friends here."

"There is that. It's a very nice back," Steph said with an appreciative look, "though it isn't my favorite."

...yes.

"Missed you." Never mind if it had only been a couple of hours since she'd seen Vi last.

"I have no idea whose you could possibly mean," Vi said with a grin as she all but preened.

That's because Steph had good taste.

She leaned in against Steph's side. "Missed you too."

Steph, who had impeccable taste of course, laughed and ran a hand over Vi's back pointedly. "Yeah, it's a big mystery, right? It's okay, you can ponder it while I'm out later learning Aphra and Isabela's idea of efficiency."

Vi grinned, slinging one arm around Steph's shoulders. "I'm sure I'll get to the bottom of it somehow."

"The very nice bottom," Steph said, deadpan, though maybe patting a certain bottom as she said it. "Promise you'll tell me if you figure it out by the time I get back? I'll bring you back a nice treat."

"You are a nice treat," Vi told her, kissing her cheek. "I will."

"I was thinking of getting you something you could enjoy right away," Steph said mildly, nudging Vi with her shoulder. "Dork."

Vi bit down on her first response, but Steph could probably tell what it was from her grin. Instead she said "Your dork, always."

"And you will have that when we get home," Steph said indulgently, "my beloved, dorkiest dork of all time."

"That's hours away," Vi protested jokingly. "What am I going to do with myself until then?"

"Well, you could help tidy up the stock room, for starters," Steph retorted, grinning. "Take a look over our next purchase order and make sure I didn't miss anything. Snuggle our poor longsuffering cat, who is no doubt wasting away for want of love right this minute."

Vi burst into laughter. "Are you trying to suggest I should work at work or something?"

"It's this wild new concept I've heard about. Thought we should give it a try," Steph said, perfectly innocent. "Personally, I'm skeptical, but. Give it a shot first, maybe?"

"It'll never catch on," Vi declared airily. "But for you I'll try."

[drumsticksandd20s]

"Aww, I knew you loved me," Steph said, putting a hand over her heart and beaming at Vi. "And this way, you can just say you know from personal experience that working at work doesn't... work."

Vi laughed and leaned in to kiss her again. "I do," she said. "My thoughts will be filled with you as I toil away."

Steph cupped her cheek as they kissed, then patted it lovingly.

"If that's what it takes to get you through your day, babe, more power to you. And to my ego."

"So long as we both know what's really important," Vi said wryly.

"That you're happy?" Steph asked. "I mean, yeah."

"I was going to say your ego, but that works too," Vi said, pulling Steph in for another kiss. "And I am."

Don't mind Saffron, knocking over a small display rack of minis across the store because her humans were at it again.

"Good," Steph said, snuggling into Vi. "That's all I care about. You, I mean. Not my ego."
