Did you wanna know how expensive Legos were as a hobby? Really freakin' expensive. Danny was very much regretting his suggestion that Steve try those out in his slightly forced retirement hobby.

Not enough to change it when Steve actually seemed pretty interested. But. Close.

"How many boats can you even build here?" he muttered under his breath, shamelessly researching this while at work.

"Incoming!" Steve yelled, tossing a rolled-up sandwich at Danny's head.

Danny caught it, but just barely and only because he'd had warning. He wasn't Steve after all.

"If this is something with kale, I'm throwing it back at you," Danny warned. He was from New Jersey. They took their subs so, so seriously.

Steve nodded. "It's stewed kale with pastrami seasoning."

It was actually pastrami, but he couldn't help himself.

"Oh, he's got jokes," Danny said, peeling it open to reveal a pretty decent pastrami on rye. "You can stay."

"I saw it online," Steve said with a grin, pulling out his own salad (because his doctor was mean). "They say you can't tell the difference."

Oh, like Danny wouldn't give him some of it at some point. "They would be lying if they said that. You got lucky in missing out when Grace was on a plant based protein kick."

Steve settled back at his desk and opened up his salad (no quinoa, at least) with a small sight. "Man was not meant to live on tempeh," he said.

Danny was already putting a quarter of the sandwich on a napkin to shove at him. Like that was a normal thing.

"I can do rice and beans, but don't try to make it seem like something else. It ain't gonna manage."

Steve nodded. "I like the rice and beans with the bacon."

Missing the point, Steve.

"Loco moco with beans," Danny suggested, also missing the point.

These were 100 percent the guys going meatless Monday in a diner where every side had been sautéed in bacon, weren't they?

"Ooh, that's good too."

Unlike this salad.

It still counted!

"Maybe we can figure out some alternatives that aren't... sad."

[grenadesandohana]

"I think the sadness makes you remember you're eating healthy," Steve said, expert on eating nasty things.

"Is that what gets you in shape? The sadness?"

Ask any Marvel actor, Daniel. It was true.

"It definitely helps," Steve said, nodding.

[hatesparadise]

"So, I shouldn't mention the snacks in my desk drawer then?"

Like Steve didn't know all about them.

Steve laughed. "You think I don't know about the snacks?"

[hatesparadise]

"Well, they haven't been dipped into as much." That was because Diego left.

"Well, there aren't as many people eating them," Steve said diplomatically.

[hatesparadise]

Danny hummed in agreement with that. "Well, I'll be sure to include healthy snacks for you."

Fig newtons were healthy, right?

Compared to the rest of the stuff in that drawer, yes. Compared to healthy food...not really.

"Thank you," Steve said with a smile.

[hatesparadise]

"Gotta keep your blood sugar up," he teased dryly.

[grenadesandohana]

"I get hangry more easily," Steve admitted.

[hatesparadise]

"That's why you start stashin' snacks in your many pockets," Danny suggested.

[grenadesandohana]

"I'm not stashing snacks in my pockets," Steve said.
