The federal government was closed, so Steve wasn't expecting a call back from anyone at the FBI about his serial killer profiler. While he waited, he went over his notes about the case and checked CNN to see if Harry had caught up with the guy who'd intended to blow up nuclear reactors.

Since all things remained un-blown-up, he was optimistic about Harry's effectiveness.

His cellphone, vibrating from various chat groups sending obnoxious Navy memes in celebration of its birthday today, was stuck in a drawer. He was not ready to look at those yet.

Only four more hours of work to go. He'd started voluntarily doing paperwork. Someone save him.

Which meant Danny was dropping lunch onto Steve's desk. Sandwiches, but he was from New Jersey so these were taken very seriously and made with the utmost freaking care.

"Thank you, Danno," Steve said with a small smile.

"I decided to give turkey meat a try for sandwiches. It's not the same is a good salami or prosciutto, but..."

He was going healthy! Kind of!

"It's better for us," Steve said.

Even if it wasn't quite as interesting as prosciutto.

"I refuse to switch to the low fat cheeses," he warned, digging out Steve's oversized turkey sub. "I refuse."

"I can agree to that," Steve said. "Just don't put too much cheese into mine, okay?"

"Fine, fine." He'd suffer through that. "There's vegetables on here. That makes up for it all this time."

"What kind of vegetables?" Steve asked, opening the sandwich to inspect it.

"Lettuce, tomatoes, onions, banana peppers..." You know. The usual! "Why, you getting picky?"

"I was checking for avocado or bean sprouts or weird things," Steve said.

"Do I look like I'd be doing that?"

Grilled eggplant? Maybe. Marinated artichokes? Yes.

"Probably not, but you don't usually bring turkey, either," Steve said.

"I'm trying here before you get my daughter to gang up on me with you," Danny shot back.

Steve laughed. "She'd make you add sprouts," he teased.

"Do not encourage this!" Do, Steve. Do.

[grenadesandohana]

"They wouldn't be Jersey sandwiches," Steve said, "but they'd probably still be okay?"

"You're getting tofu sandwiches if you keep this up," Danny warned.

"That's just uncalled for," Steve complained, frowning.

[hatesparadise]

"You're the one pushing buttons here."

[grenadesandohana]

"Tofu sandwiches is an unnecessary escalation," Steve teased.

"Oh, this coming from the guy who advocates for dangling people off of buildings," Danny replied around a bite of sub.

"That's less cruel than tofu sandwiches," Steve decided.

Danny kicked at his foot for that. "False. Illegal and false."

[grenadesandohana]

"Next time we're interrogating someone, I'll offer them the shark tank or a tofu sandwich," Steve said. "I think you'll be surprised which way they go."

Danny snorted and shook his head. "You're a lunatic."
