The Perk, Saturday

Sairis was finally, tentatively working his way out into the town to learn more about it. He still had a bit of coin left, since he hadn't had to pay for food or lodging, so he made his way around the place until he saw something that looked at least a little familiar.

Only it apparently wasn't a tavern, it was a shop just for tea and coffee?

Sairis got a coffee and let the person talk him into something sweet called a "peppermint white mocha", then sat at a table and sipped it while he poked at his phone some more.

It wasn't too bad, temperature wise, today so Gregorith decided to give this whole "going outside" thing a try. Though sometimes when going for a walk, it helped to have a destination so he aimed for the Perk for a pick-me-up and a snack.

"I'd like a double mocha Frappuccino and a brownie please."

It was never too cold for a Frappuccino.

And that was a very tall, very red person. It was one thing to hear about other beings living here, and another to see one.

Sairis did his best not to stare, and just kept his eyes on his own drink.

Gregorith was paradoxically practiced at noticing people staring, and pretending not to. But he was also very used to people not staring, or in this case trying not to do so. After a very brief debate he decided to try his hand at putting someone at ease.

"It's okay," he said, "I'm..." well not exactly friendly, "Not dangerous." Unless you were dead, and an unrepentant monster.

Sairis startled at being addressed. "That's good. Thank you. Sorry, I'm not used to people who aren't human, though I've been told they live here, too."

This kid looked oddly familiar, but Gregorith couldn't say why.

"That's all right. I get variations of that reaction from time to time. Not everyone's as polite about it as you are. Are you one of the new students?"

Sairis was still trying too hard not to stare, and to get past the nonhuman appearance, to notice any resemblance to anyone.

"I am, yes. Sairis."

"Pleased to meet you Sairis, I'm Gregorith. I'm relatively new here myself I guess. Just arrived a few months ago." It was somewhat refreshing, someone having roughly the same reaction to him that many mortal souls had to any other demon.

"Pleased to meet you," Sairis echoed. "Is this place as strange to you as it is to me?"

"It is strange in many ways." Gregorith nodded. "I'm from the afterlife, and usually it's not a good idea for adult demons to venture into the mortal world." Come to think of it, he wondered if other afterlife denizens had similar taboos. He knew none of the deities ventured forth these days but what about the fae?
