The Park; Wednesday Afternoon

Harley made for quite a visible sight in the park, wearing her bright yellow faux fur coat.

But, yanno. She was there with her giant hyena, so depending on the person, maybe Bruce was still the most eye catching living thing around, 'less you happened to be from somewhere where both spotted hyenas and people with loud fashion senses were a dime a dozen -- in which case maybe the flamingos were the biggest point of interest?

Anyway!

Harley was there, watching Bruce stalk the flamingos by the pond again.

The birds were not having it.

"I keep tellin' ya, baby," Harley called out to him, after a sip from her takeaway cup, "ya gotta watch out for the wings and the legs! And the beak! The whole bird, basically!"

Rey was cutting through the park after training. And yeah, they were pretty hard to miss.

"Who's winning?" she asked. Like the words weren't hint.

"Me," Harley decided, with a sunny look over at Rey. "'Cause these guys," and she gestured first to Bruce, doing yet more stalking, and then the flamingos, doing what probably counted as the bird version of scowling at him, "are at an impasse at best, but at least I'm gettin' entertainment out of it!"

"The impasse is probably better than one dude winning anyway," Rey said, and asked, "Mind some company?"

"Not at all!" Harley said, toasting her with her coffee. "More the merrier! Brucey's gonna be at this for a while 'cause he never learns."

"You have to admire the tenacity," she said, taking a seat. "How've you been?"

"Oh, just peachy," Harley claimed, because she loved saying that whether it was accurate or not. The wide grin was a must, too. "Maybe an eensy bit bored in this new year, but I'm workin' on that! Might even go to another Gotham, so that will be interesting."

There was a pause for a thought, but unfortunately it was not for considering whether Rey even knew what a Gotham was.

Instead:

"Maybe the Bat looks different there!"

"I don't think I know what those things are," Rey admitted. "Bat like the animal?"

"No, Bat like this guy back home," Harley explained, with an eye roll that was clearly aimed at the guy in question and not Rey, "that dresses up like a bat - which, we don't even got time to get into what sorts of things that indicates about his brain - that gets off on stickin' in his nose in other people's business and spoils all their fun! With jail time."

"Like a costumed cop?"

She'd heard of Ratman but hadn't seen it, okay?

"Like the worst costumed cop!" Harley confirmed, with a big nod. "Used to be all up in mine and Mr. J's business back in the day, like, all the time."

Rey nodded slowly. "And who is Mr. J?"

Harley blinked. "Wow, you're really missin' a lotof back story, hunh?"

You only noticed now, Harls?

"Mr. J is my big ex from home." She waved her free hand in a big flourish, as if presenting something. "The Clown Prince of Crime! I drove myself genuinely insane for him, dove into a vat of unknown chemicals, the works."

That was... One way to sum all of it up, sure.

"And then we broke up and I've been basically tryin' to figure my life out ever since."

"You didn't know I had powers for quite a while," Rey pointed out, though Harley had at least found that out sooner than right now. "That... makes sense. Can I ask about the cat of chemicals, though?"

"Sure," Harley replied, with a shrug, "but whatever answers I got or don't got depends on the questions."

The questions were straightforward: "How did it happen? Are you okay?"
