Pick Your Poison, Wednesday

Everybody had their own spring rituals. Arden's was cleaning, but Adrian's was getting outside in the garden and starting to prepare the soil for planting. Cleaning up the debris from winter, turning the soil to break it up and keep it loose, checking over the planters and beds to see if any of them needed to be repaired. Normally it would also involve pruning back some of the perennials, but that seemed firmly under the heading of Check With Pam First.

He was a smart boy. Mostly

When Rey came in and didn't immediately see Adrian up front, she kind of figured where he might be. She still called out, "Hello?" just in case, though. And to be polite.

"Rey!" Adrian hopped up from where he was crouched over a bed and poked his head into the main store, grinning at her and completely unaware of the smear of dirt high on his left cheek. "Hi!"

"Hi," she said, smiling as she walked over. "You look busy."

What with the adorable dirt.

He'd protest, but he'd think the exact same thing were their circumstances reversed, so...

"It's almost spring!" he said happily, giving her a kiss as soon as she was in reach. "Winter is a nice break, but I'm ready to welcome spring back."

"I don't know about using 'winter' and 'nice' together, but I agree on the rest," she said, reaching up to wipe at the dirt with her thumb. "Do you have a lot to do?"

"What are you--oh!" He glanced down at the smudge on her fingers and laughed, a bit ruefully. "Here, not so much, since it's a much smaller space and also it's Pam's. But the Grove? Oh yeah."

He sounded excited about it, though.

"Am I about to lose you to the Grove?" she teased.

She was not worried. Abd she liked anything that made him this happy.

"It depends," Adrian teased. "How interested in you in yardwork?"

"I've never done it but that doesn't mean I can't," Rey answered.

Adrian had been teasing, but at her answer his entire expression softened. "If you'd ever like to learn, I'd be happy to teach you," he said, his fingers brushing over her cheek now. Not because of dirt, just simply how could he not? "...I'm also amenable to being dragged out of my Grove by my ear every so often and reminded that there's more to life than extensive gardening, if you'd rather do that instead."

"We can do both," she told him, sneaking a light kiss. "Gardening, shower, then I take you to dinner."
