The Magpie Emporium, Thursday (3/19)
People were still pretty intense about the cat rescue game. This had forced Steph to revise the store code of conduct and post new, larger copies of it around the lounge with the last line, in boldface red ink and in about a 64-point font as opposed to the 38-point font of most of the body, especially prominent:
Look, man, the gamer gremlins don't work for me. Disturb their peace at YOUR OWN RISK.
And now if you needed her for anything, she was likely on her laptop, trying her hardest not to get too involved in an argument about media adaptations and whether there were some things that just didn't need to be adapted, period.
[OOC: My extremely mixed feelings about the LiS show adaptation, let me show you them. Open!]

"Yeah, you should be," replied Steph, also only half teasing because she knew Vi was perfectly well aware of how allergic she'd been to commitment. "Compared to you, anyone else would be lowering my standards."
Saffron knew that couldn't be right. Not because Food Human's comparison was backwards, but because Food Human claiming to have standards was... dubious.

Vi grinned and pressed another kiss to her temple. "Good thing you'll never have to do that."
After all, of Food Human had standards she'd keep Saffron on the manner she deserved.
no subject
"Wasn't planning on it anyway," Steph said, nuzzling at Vi's shoulder. "You can't get rid of me, sorry not sorry."
And had Food Human done more than the bare minimum, with all the salmon treats and toys? Not once.
no subject
"Definitely not sorry about that."
Had she ever offered to hand feed Saffron those treats (not that she'd have taken them)? Not once.
no subject
"When we get home tonight I'm going to kiss you until you forget your own name," Steph murmured, and tried to lock eyes with Vi over the top of her coffee cup.
Look, just because Food Human's odds of getting clawed or bitten were extremely high if she did, it wasn't an excuse not to try.
no subject
The look Vi gave Steph was very sappy indeed. "I can hardly wait."
Didn't Saffron deserve that?
no subject
"Me neither," Steph said, seemingly unaware of the whipped cream along the top of her upper lip as she lowered the cup again. "Feels like it's going to be forever until then."
Saffron deserved that and much more, and here was Food Human failing to live up to even the most reduced expectations.

Steph may or may not have been aware of it, but Vi certainly was. "I can think of a few things to tide you over," she murmured, leaning in to kiss it off.
It was like she somehow thought Saffron wasn't the most important person here.
no subject
"Yeah, I bet you can." Steph tilted her head up towards Vi and leaned in to accept that kiss. "It's way too long otherwise."
Was this because Saffron was a cat? Did Food Human think that somehow made her less of a person?
no subject
"Gotta make sure you don't go without," Vi said between kisses. "That'd be terrible."
Did Snuggle Human know Food Human discriminated against poor kitties like this?
no subject
"Funny, I never seem to have to worry about that with you around," Steph teased, and took another sip of her coffee just to give Vi the excuse to lick whipped cream off her mouth again. "Lucky me."
Surely Snuggle Human had noticed by now? Or was Food Human diabolically distracting her from it?
no subject
"Weird that," Vi said, obligingly dipping her head to kiss Steph again. "Just have to make you keep getting lucky."
Food Human and her wicked wiles were the worst.
no subject
"Is that a promise?" Steph asked, cupping one hand around the back of Vi's neck and running her thumb over the skin there. "I really hope so."
It was all Food Human's fault one way or another.
no subject
"It is," Vi said said softly, brushing her thumb over Steph's cheek.
She was simply terrible.
no subject
Steph pressed her cheek into Vi's hand, smiling goofily at her. "Can't wait. What are the odds I can get a sneak preview before closing time?" she asked as if there had ever been more than one answer.
no subject
"Very high," Vi murmured, grinning back just as goofily.
no subject
"Yeah, I feel like it," Steph replied with a little snicker. "You have that effect on me."
no subject
Vi grinned again and nudged her nose against Steph's. "Can think of a few effects I'd like to have on you."
no subject
"You know exactly how and when to press my buttons," Steph said, hooking her fingers into Vi's waistband just for the sake of feeling a little bit closer. It was fairly evident from the slight tone of distance in her voice that she was thinking of a few herself. "Truly unparalleled levels of skill at that."
no subject
"I've got clever fingers and a smart mouth." Butter would not have melted in Vi's mouth.
no subject
"Believe me, I've definitely noticed," Steph replied, aiming a gentle poke at Vi's sternum with the index finger of the hand holding her coffee. "And appreciated."
no subject
"Good thing I like to be appreciated by you." Anything could be a euphemism if you believed in yourself.
no subject
"Oh, I'll appreciate you, damn right I will," Steph laughed, waggling her eyebrows.
Also anything could be a euphemism when you were a pair of smartasses who had a lot to say to each other and were also hopelessly unable to physically separate themselves for long.
no subject
"I know you will," Vi said, leaning in to steal yet another kiss. "And I'll appreciate you even harser."
And who had no problem making their verbal foreplay everyone else's.
no subject
"It's not a competition, babe," Steph said, laughing and perfectly well aware they'd treat it like one anyway.
And there was so much verbal foreplay.
