The Boards, Sunday Afternoon
Jono still had the sign advertising next Sunday's showcase up in the window, sure, but that wasn't entirely why he was in this weekend. Dante had requested that they, the band, start doing things again, and in order for that to happen, well, he was going to have to open the place for rehearsals and such. Kind of the logical next step, there.
And so, the theatre was open today, with a sign outside advertising band rehearsal today, but also noting that they were always willing to try out new members, if anybody wanted to join. After all, they had lost their - heh - lead triangle. That simply wouldn't do, would it?
Now maybe they could at the very least get some music written. Or just jam for a while, if nothing else.
[OOC: Open to all! I'll ping when I can, but it'll probably lead into SP, and feel free to get messy in the comments, since I'm the one linkgrabbing this stuff anyway! If you show up to try out for the band, congrats, we'll make room for you in the band. Even if you want to be lead triangle.]

Or, well, not prepared, because that would have involved forethought, but she was ready and more than willing to wing it, even if she turned out to be terrible at it. The important part was that it was something new, sort of an adventure. So she had to.
[[Woooooo SP!]]

... And most other things, admittedly. He was pretty notoriously terrible at keeping his nose out of trouble, and Jonothon's particular sort of trouble tended to go hand-in-hand with adventure.
//Afternoon,// he greeted, only sightly distracted. He had his bass guitar set to the side for actual rehearsal-type things, of course, but he was currently fingerpicking at an acoustic, just noodling around while he waited for the band to show, or not show, whatever they so chose. //Welcome to th'Boards. Here to try out for the band, or just jam along?//

//New to this corner of the galaxy, then,// he surmised. Liara had been as well, he supposed he shouldn't be surprised, even though the island seemed to be a magnet for Asari. //Do you play any instruments? Or sing, perhaps? I'm not altogether familiar with the music from your neck of the woods, but we might be able to find you something that makes a decent substitute for whatever you're familiar with, if you like.//

A 500-year sibling age gap was such a drag.
She shrugged. "Is there anything in particular you're looking for, for this band? I'm a quick study."

//As a matter of fact, we could always use a vocalist,// Jono replied, looking thoughtful. //Dante's on lead guitar,// he held up the one in his hand to show it off, //but if you have any interest in trying, we could let you have a go at it too. Pinkie is on drums... Lucille is on keyboard, but she's gone for a few months.//
He paused.
//If, ah, any of that makes any sense whatsoever.//
He tended to get a touch carried away sometimes.
//Whatever you decide you want to try, I promise we won't bore you forever with theory first. Diving in is half the fun.//

"More like all the fun," she said, chuckling. "Figuring out how things work on my own is way more fun than having other people tell me how I'm supposed to do things. Wouldn't mind taking a crack at all the instruments eventually, but vocals? Sure, why not? That could be a place to start."
She'd considered offering to fill in on keyboard too, but that seemed more committal than she wanted to be.
no subject
//Not a bad starting point either, good way to see what kind of ear you've got for it,// Jono mused. //Not that not having one would be a dealbreaker, necessarily. Do you know any songs offhand that you can try singing right now, by any chance?//

conveniently vague because all the canon pop culture references were from like six decades in her futurereasonably contemporary but not terribly mainstream. She cued up the song and started into it with no preamble whatsoever; honestly, it sounded kind of like it could have been an unreleased bonus track from Fleetwood Mac's Rumours or somewhere around that time period, just with somealso conveniently vaguedifferent musical instruments. Her voice wasn't spectacular, and her range was decent if not impressive, but hey, at least she could carry a tune. Plus, whatever she lacked in performance experience, she certainly seemed to make up for in enthusiasm.

Jono, meanwhile, had to remind himself that he was listening to the girl sing, not trying to figure out what the instruments could possibly be. Fortunately, she wasn't difficult to listen to, either. When she was finished he gave a little nod, casually picked out a small sampling of what she'd just played to get a feel for the musical style on his guitar, and then gave her another around-the-eyes smile.
//You've got a voice I could definitely play to,// he replied. //and excellent taste in music. If you want in, you're in, luv. Welcome aboard.//
no subject
She didn't sound like she was unsure of that. It was more like she was looking for agreement.
no subject
//Well, I know I've been enjoying it,// Jono replied, agreeing in full. //And we've got run of the theatre for rehearsals and the music shop for inspiration and instruments and the like. So it's been working out thus far, at the very least.//
no subject
Look out, she might just decide to try and take up the electric cello on a whim someday.
no subject
Really, Jono would only enable her if she wanted. He really would.
//I hoped you wouldn't. I'm Jono, by the way. I own both this place and the music shop, so if there's anything you'd like from either, just let me know.//
no subject
"Peebee," she replied, nodding. "And that's convenient. Equipment, performance space, not a whole lot of hassle with go-betweens, huh?"
no subject
Hey, Jono could shoot jets of flame on command. Why not an electric cello?
//Just the way I like it,// he agreed. //I didn't intend to end up with either, but it works out nicely all th'same.//
no subject
"I gotta say, you don't strike me as the type who set out to be a business owner," Peebee admitted, then held her hands up. "I mean, I could be wrong, in which case, no offense meant."
no subject
Especially when compared to things like 'just focus on not dying' and 'everything is ruined, there's an x-gene involved here.'
no subject
"That probably wouldn't have been my first choice either," Peebee admitted. "But hey, it seems to be working out for you, so nice going."
no subject
No, he was on a bike, still cheerfully speaking to nobody in particular. In Danish, which he didn't even speak usually. "So, what is our secret? Could it be that we find joy in nature? Is it that we keep work and life in perfect balance? Is it that we make time for hygge, feeling all fuzzy and snuggly together?"
...He rode down one aisle, across the stage, and up the other, before leaving.

And then casually held up his phone to film all of... of that.
Look, it had been entirely too long since he'd seen a gremlin bite that wasn't him. Just because he was married to the man didn't mean he wasn't going to take advantage of free blackmail material.
no subject
". . . well, that was certainly . . . a thing."

late, as his mun had only spotted this post while half asleepand a smirk on his face."Band practice. Who'd have guessed?"
no subject
//Surprise,// Jono quipped, amused. //Somebody made a request last week, so I figured there wasn't any harm in actually opening the place. Got anything new in mind yet?//

//The enthusiastic Asari girl,// Jono replied pleasantly. He'd liked Peebee. She'd seemed pleasant. //Peebee, I think it was? I told her she was quite welcome to join us. Figured after Kuzco we could certainly use a new addition to the group who wasn't going to try to take over using a triangle.//
Though in all honesty, the triangle had amused him all too much.

//Oh, good,// Jono replied, a laugh in his voice. //I haven't met many of them yet, now that I'm not teaching, so I had to exercise my better judgment.//
Which was rarely a good idea with Jonothon, but this time around apparently it had worked out.

By which he meant 'banging Isabela'.
no subject
//Well, good,// he decided. //Then this won't be an entirely unpleasant summer, will it?//
