Angela runs a fuinger down the menu, debating.

"I think the artichoke croquettes and the duckling," she says. "Unless you want something from the raw bar."

"No that sounds good. Except I'll have the Sea Bass instead."

Marty rolls his eyes at Angela. "Camilla."

Marty then orders the appropriate wine and the waiter doesn't even bother to card them.

"I'll have to remember this place."

Angela nods sympatetically. "She put you off all poultry?" Angela says. "Or does she just, like, look hurt when you come home with a bucket of KFC?"

Marty nods. "It's the look. I never knew chickens could have puppy dog eyes."

He pours a glass of wine for each of them.

"To my retirement," he says raising his glass in a toast.

"Probably that's only muppet chickens," Angela says.

She raises her glass. "To your retirement, and to beginnings."

Marty taps his glass against hers. "Who would've thought I'd retire in my teens? I guess I need to take up golf and start wearing white belts and polyester pants now."

Angela sips at her glass of white wine. It is good.

"Shuffleboard," she says. "And, um, early bird buffets."

She smiles, "Or you could just, like, try to be 17. Whatever works."

The appetizers arrive.

"17? You mean, like go to school? Get a diploma? Live a normal life? Well... normal as we know it anyway."

Marty tries the appetizer. "Mmmm. Good choice."

Angela smiles. "The appetizer, or the normal life?"

She nibbles on the edge of a croquette. It's tasty, crunchy and creamy.

"I can vouch for at least the appetizer," she says, her mouth full.

"I'll take both with a side order of fries. Or whatever French term the use here."

Marty refills their glasses.

"Thank God, my religion class was cancelled. Gandalf usually has good food. Plus we got earlier seating."

Angela tilts her head to one side. "I don't know you were interested in that. Religion." She sips at her wine. "I'm not even convinced I believe in God."

Marty shrugs.

"I'm not so sure that I believe in God either, but ever since I came here I've been getting this sneaky feeling that there's more to life than I originally thought. But we actually haven't even looked at Christianity yet. We've been looking at all the Eastern religions."

"That's cool," Angela says, agreeably mellow from the food and the wine. "I'm kind of interested in, like, Buddhism. I have a friend whose mom is Buddhist, sort of." She shrugs, a little embarassed. "She was .... sort of a lot of things. You know, the aging hippy type."

"This is definitely a "more things in heaven and earth" kind of place," Angela says, lightly.

"I wonder what Phale would say to that," Marty says with an impish grin, "Or for that matter Geoff and Hamlet?"

Angela smiles. "I think we managed to freak Phale out good, which probably takes some doing. I'm not sure if I should be proud of us or not."

The entrees come and the appetizer plates are cleared off as Marty rolls his eyes with a humorous look on his face.

"I freaked Phale out just by asking for a book to buy. He kept trying to send me to another store the first time I met him."

Marty holds up the wine bottle. "You want some more?"

Angela takes a bite of duck, wriggling a little in pleasure at the taste. "Mmmm. Please," she says, holding out her wine glass for Marty.

"What book were you trying to buy?"

Marty smiles and pours out more wine.

"Your book actually. I think it is supposed to be some rare edition. I didn't look to closely at it. I've spent the last two days trying to figure out his inventory system. I don't think there's a book in there that isn't rare or one of a kind."

Angela nods. "That wouldn't surprise me. His stock is ... interesting."

She licks a last bit of parsnip puree from a fork tine. "This was really good. Should we ask about dessert, or do you want to go for a walk or something?"
