Beach:After classes

Maia sat on the beach, it was too cold to take her shoes off and wade, she pulled her jacket tighter around her, the cold felt good. The wind stinging her cheeks, the gray bleak ocean in front of her. Maia's hand abscently played in the sand. She was watching something in her mind, she noticed nothing around her but what only she could see.

Aayla pulls her robes together against the chilly wind and walks along the road overlooking the beach. She spies Maia and waves to her, walking down to the beach she smiles.
"Hello, Maia. How are you today?"

Maia turns and smiles "Hello Aayla. I am doing well. How are you?"

"Things are going well for me." She smiles. "It got very cold very quickly here. Is this typical of the weather on Earth?" She tugs her robes tighter, dressed in more clothing than usual.

"Yeah it is. In fact, we should be getting snow eventually." Maia glanced at Aayla "You should get a knit hat or something to keep your head warm." Maia nodded. "And a jacket, a thick one. Once it snows its really cold."

"I've been to Illum, where it snows all the time. Unless I look strange like this," she pulls the hood of her robe over her head, "I should be fine. Thank you for the advice though." She smiles and pulls down her hood.

Maia smiles slightly "So your not very sensitive to cold then? I like your hood."

"Oh, I feel it. But these robes are made extremely well and I try not to let such minor things as cold bother or distract me." She laughs a little. "Doesn't mean I prefer being warm, though."

Maia giggled. "So if there's planets that snow all the time and planets that are all sand, do you have planets that are all oceans as well?"

"Most certainly. Manaan is a very interesting planet. The Selkaths come from there. Aside from Wookie, their language is one of the most unique I've come across." She pauses a moment.
"I'd mentioned before that the diversity of this planet is very intriguing."

Maia nodded recalling the conversation. "When your on a ship up there? Is it just a ship or is it alive?"

"A ship is just a complex machine. Many pilots grow attatched to thier ships and give them personal atributes, but no, they're not organic living things..." She trails off. "Do you mean that there are ships that are alive?" She asks incredulously.

Maia nodded quickly shocked that Aayla did not know this. "Chiana, my friend thats Nebarie, her ship was alive, she calls it um.. Moya." Maia tries to remember what the type of ship it is, "Its a levathian or something like that."

Aayla nods, deep in thought. "You'd mentioned Nebarians before... It's not a species I'm familiar with." She looks out at nothing in particular. "A living ship... that's fascinating." Turning her attention back to Maia, she says, "I'd like to meet your friend Chiana and perhaps see this ship of hers, if possible."

Maia looked thoughtful for a moment, "I don't think Moya is near here, she painted a picture of her for me though I can show it to you sometime." Maia played in the sand for a moment then smiled "Oh yeah, absolutly you can meet her. In fact we went swimming the other night out in the ocean and well, she had never swam before and she went under the water and" Maia shakes her head "Scared me because she stayed under a really long time. I- well we sort of argued when she came back up because I was scared you know, but its all ok now we made lov- up and so.." Maia blushes furiously now. "Yeah she'll be thrilled to meet you I'm sure."

Aayla listened to the rambling anecdote, a grin tugging at the corner of her lips. Ignoring the blatant correction of wording for the sake of privacy, she simply says, "Sounds like she's pleasant to be around. Does she go to the high school as well?"

Maia nodded relieved Aayla obviously respected her privacy. "Yeah she's actually next door to me in the dorms. We met on the first day of school actually." Maia tilted her head at Aayla "How old are you?"

Looking like she's doing some calculations in her head, she responds after a few moments. "Twenty Earth years. I've been informed that most students finish school at eighteen, so I didn't try to apply. Also, Anakin is there already, and having two Jedi investigate the same place is not very efficient."

"Oh ok, I'm 18 I still have a year left, I well, I had to repeat a year. Things were, well really different when I came back." Maia frowned at the memory of the humiliation that year brought her. "Oh do you know Padme?"

"It takes time to adjust to something as drastic as what you'd gone through, Maia." Aayla says comfortingly.
She thinks a moment. "Padme... You mean Senator Amidala? Is she here as well?"

Maia nodded slowly at the first part of what Aayla had said. "Yeah it does" She smiled sadly "Still am getting used to it I guess."

Maia looked thoughtful "Yeah I think thats her. She teaches Diplomacy or something like that at the school"

"She's a well respected Senator from the planet Naboo. If I had to pick a planet most like Earth it would be that one.
The Council never told me there would be people from our galaxy here already. I met a Wookie who bartends at the local cantina just last week."
Adjusting her wind-blown robe a little, she gets a mildly inquisitive look on her face. "What are you studying at the school?"

"Biology, Criminology, Home Ec" Maia laughs at that one, "Maths" Maia looked thoughtful "I am going to be a diplomat when I graduate actually." Maia said this in a matter of fact way. "For the 4400 center."

"4400 Center? Is that a place for the others who were taken like you?" Aayla asks perceptively.

Maia smiled and nodded "Yeah, but its for people who want to be like us as well. People go through a bunch of steps to become a 4400. My friend Shawn runs it now and he asked me to come work there after I graduate."

"Become a 4400? So your abilities are aquired through training, then?" she asks, looking at Maia from the side.

Maia shook her head no "No, nobody can, well nobody can actually 'be' like us. Its more about opening up a person potential to become something more then they are to begin with. But no, they don't have powers by the end of it." Maia said casually. "I mean there are others who do what I do, psychics and stuff but I'm the only 4400 who can do it."
