Thursday Night at the Perk

Tonight's "CFS: Criminal Forensic Scientists" is a rerun, and she isn't supposed to be alone...but she'll be damned if she's going to hide away in her house. She figures some place busy and bright like the Perk will be safe enough, so she shop-hops so she's always around people until she gets there. Sitting down with a latte and a book, she's just...quiet.

Logan picked up a coffee at the counter and settled into a booth with a notebook and his iPod, keeping an eye out for Kara.

Kara enters the The Perk and scans the room for Logan. Locating him in a corner booth, she walks over and slips in opposite him. "As requested," she says.

Logan stuck his recorder attachment onto the top of his iPod. "Mind if I tape this?" he asked.

"Knock yourself out," she replies, looking around idly and drumming her fingers on the tabletop.

Logan switched it on. "Okay, Kara. Um. Where are you from? Tell me about your home dimension."

"I'm from Caprica, which is one of the Tweleve Colonies." She pauses, and thinks for a moment. "The colonies were once seperate planets with their own governments, but 40 years ago or something like that, were were all united under one government."

Possibly a little bit tipsy, since alcohol tends to affect her faster when she's morphed, Tonks walked into the Perk, sitting at the table beside CJ's. She lifted a hand in a wave.

[She smiles and waves back, setting down her book and taking a sip of her latte.] How are you tonight, Tonks?

"I'm doing great," Tonks answered with a grin, raking her hand through her hair. "Good book?" She asked, nodding toward the one CJ had set aside.

It's ok. I'm having a hard time getting in to it. [She holds up the cover. "The Secret Life of Bees"] It's not very engaging.

Want to join me? Or just holler across the tables?

"Bees. Sounds riveting." Tonks giggled and moved to sit beside CJ, picking up the book and reading the cover blurb.

Parker waves to C.J. as she comes in, on her way up to the counter for a coffee.

"Hi, C.J. How are you doing? Liz said you weren't feeling well." Parker is sipping a tall Venti, slurping off the foam and looking pleased with herself.

Whatever Zero's drinking has sprinkles and whipped cream and looks much less deadly.

*Zero takes a sip of her whipped cream-topped concoction and licks the whipped cream off her lip.*

Messy. But sweet. Hi, Professor Cregg.

Outside the Perk...

Shane waits, her hands tucked into the pockets of her coat. She'd gotten a call from Tara to meet her at the Perk after her dinner with Jonathan and Lily. When Tara had told her about making the plans, she'd sounded almost anxious, as though she didn't want to upset her... but Shane had told her it was fine. She was concerned about Jonathan, still, but as far as she knew, Bel had given up on the bullying business. Angel was souled and so that left, at Shane's last figuring, no baddies to be unduly concerned about.

Shifting on her feet a bit anxiously, she bites her lip, hand closing on something inside her left pocket. After a moment, she pulls a pack of cigarettes from her right pocket and lights one.

Hopefully the nicotine will kick in and she'll stop being all nervous and fidgety by the time Tara gets there.

Tara arrives about five minutes later, breath steaming a little in the cold night air, her hands thrust into her coat pockets.

After years in California, she's not used to it getting this cold, and she really ought to buy a heavier jacket.

Waving to Shane, she picks up the pace, almost skipping as she arrives in front of her beloved.

"Hey," Shane says quietly, lips drawing back into a warm smile, eyes shining. Turning her head she blows a thin stream of smoke off to the side, away from the two of them.

Turning back to Tara, she runs both of her hands along Tara's arms, leaning in to press a soft kiss to her cheek, still not entirely sure how Tara feels about kissing her when she's smoking.

"Hey," Tara murmurs back, kissing Shane's cheek in return, lingering for a moment on the slightly chilled skin.

"Look, tonight I'm smoking too!" She purses her lips and blows a stream of air out, faint white fog - and then grins at Shane, pleased with herself.

Shane chuckles, shoulders shaking as she reaches up and gently strokes Tara's cheek with her thumb, as if trying to lend some small bit of warmth to her.

Her left hand is free and empty and it's already starting to itch. "Umm," she begins quietly. "I... can we wait for a minute before we go in? I -- I know it's cold, but... I just wanted to... talk to you for a minute."

Parker is in search of caffiene. Caffiiiiiiene. Maybe even.... Black Death.

What Janet and the doctors don't know, won't hurt Parker. She holds the door open for Zero as she comes in.

Parker pouts. "It's been nearly two months since I had an incident. I can have real, true, beautiful coffee now. And maybe some real dessert while I'm at it."

"You were in another coffee shop altogether." Parker scanned the menu. "How about a Fra-la-Latte shake? That's frou-frou as all hell." She grinned. "Oh, and by the way? I think I can get the Dusted Bunnies to play here in January. The Dean's okayed us having a dance."
