Caritas, OPEN (Monday Night)

After spending the day working on his present for Parker, Jarod was on a bit of a sugar buzz and had definitely caught the holiday spirit. He asked the band to play something "festive," which resulted in a version of "Silent Night" with a lot of guffawing from the band at the "virgin" lyrics.

He didn't see what was so funny. He had brought his gifts for Lorne and Parker with him. He was a little nervous about the gift for his employer, never having bought a present for a demon before. The gifts to Parker...well, he'd put his heart into them, so maybe that would count for something.

Parker comes in bearing various packages, and a covered basket, shivering. "I am sooo looking forward to the Bahamas on Thursday," she says, parking herself at the bar. "Happy Holidays." Then she grins. "What did you make me? And can it start with a hot cocoa?"

"Oooo. Which first?" Parker said, picking up the jewelry box and shaking it, and then looking speculatively at the other wrapped package. Then she shot a sharp glance at the basket, and tucked the napkin in a little closer.

Parker opened the little jewelry box first, and stopped, stunned. "Oh," she murmured. "They're Mom's. How did you...?"

"Oh," she said again, swallowing hard. Parker smiled hesitantly, then slowly unpinned them from the box. "I remember her wearing these on New Year's Eve," she said as she put them in her ears. "I thought they were the most gorgeous things ever." She swung her head back and forth, feeling them hit her jawline. "How do they look?"

"I should be. I *would* be. But...." She touched one dangling earring, and bit her lip. "Dad never talks about her. And I think he gave away everything she had. I don't blame him. But every once in a while, I try to remember what she was like before-- what happened." She shook her head, and got a grip on herself. "Oh, and these (http://www.telluridetruffle.com/truffles_store.html) are for Becky and Miho. For giving you a place to stay when I had no idea where you were."

"I do, I love it. And you didn't make me sad." She cleared her throat, and brightened, taking her other package. "Let's seeeee...."

She stared at her present, eyes wide.

First thought: It's beautiful. Of course.

Second thought: It's PEZ.

"Oh. My. God. This is *fabulous*!" she chortled, grinning at him. "I don't want to even think about how long it took you to make it! Wow. Oh, wow. Thank you!"

"Oh, but it's great, how could I not like it?" She shook her head, still amused. "And it's not juvenile by a long shot, it's far too precise. Not to mention pretty." Parker blinked. "And it's edible? Hmmm. Oh, it's way too pretty to eat." She bit her lip. "Maybe just a tiny piece off the corner, though...."

"Only a small part. I have to show this off to people," she said, determined, breaking off a small, thumbs-sized portion of one corner. "Mmm. God, this will rot my teeth. It's delicious."

She smirked, and looked from him, to the basket. "Ready for your present? I could draw this out longer, and wait until Lorne gets here, but you've been good this year. For you. Sooooo....."

"Something much less useful, I have to admit. I still might get you the hemlock, at some unspecified date." Parker chortled, then reached into the basket, and brought out: this. (http://www.hsmcil.org/images/Kittens/calico.jpg)
