Caritas: Monday [Open]

GOB needed a drink, but nobody had opened Caritas yet. So he knocked on the door and caused enough noise that Tino let him in just to shut him up.

After finishing his second drink, he he made what could be a terrible mistake. "You know, Tino? I'll take a shot at doing this host thing tonight. Open the place up!"

[OOC: Jumping in and taking care of this even though Lorne and I didn't work it out IG yet. Why not?]

Jenny comes in, orders a mai tai, and notices that the guy from New Year's Eve who was hitting on her seems to work here.

That...might not be good.

GOB, having been really far gone by the time he got to Jenny on New Year's Eve, didn't recognize the woman who just walked in. "Hey there, pretty lady. What can I get you?"

"Mai tai," says Jenny, totally forgetting that this wasn't Lorne going AFK like usual and she gets to roleplay her order. "Name's Jenny, not 'pretty lady.' Quiet night tonight, I'm noticing."

"Hey, Tino, make up a Mai tai!"

GOB turned back to Jenny and said, "We opened a little late. Who knows what business will be like in a little bit?" GOB was hoping it wouldn't be too heavy. He wasn't a fan of actually doing work.

"Good point," said Jenny. "Thanks for the drink." Even if he wasn't going to be making it himself. "Everyone may still be recovering from New Year's Eve."

"Yeah, New Year's Eve was kind of rough. I... Wait, you look kind of familiar. Did we meet at the party?"

Rita strolled into Caritas and took a seat at the bar, tapping her wand lightly against the surface.

Patience was never her strong point.

"Hi there, pretty lady," GOB said. Yes, that was going to be his greeting to every woman who walked in tonight. He had learned that flirting results in better tips. "What can I get you? And what's with the stick thing?"

"It's a wand. And I'll have a firewhiskey, straight up," Rita replied, shooting him a bemused look.

"A wand? Ah, so you're an illusionist, too?" GOB asked.

"Witch, actually," Rita said, narrowing her gaze slightly.

While he had been living in Fandom for a couple months, GOB hadn't actually seen any of the really weird stuff that happened here. And so he made a terrible mistake. "What, so magic is real? You have a pointy hat and a broom? Pfft. Whatever you say, lady."

"Hey," said Jenny. The bartender was mixing up her mai tai, and she'd noticed a straight-from-the-bottle blonde walking in and tapping a wand on the counter. Usually? Only the wannabe Wicca types in Sunnydale were that obvious about it. "Town seems to be dead when class is between session, don't you think?"

"I wouldn't know," Rita replied casually. "Been here less than a week."

"Ooh, someone newer than me," said Jenny, holding out her hand. "Jenny Calendar. Nice to meet you."

"Rita Skeeter," Rita said with a slight smile, accepting Jenny's hand. "It's a pleasure. What do you do, Ms. Calendar?"

From her handbag, an acid green quill spun out along with a scrap of parchment, and surreptitiously began to scribble.

Jenny felt the tingle of magic being used, and glanced around the room. Didn't seem to be coming from Tino or the other guy, and the zombies were always a low-level hum of energy she ignored, so it had to be Rita. Looked like the wand might not be just for show. But, hey, no bad vibes were coming off it, so it was no big.

"Oh, I teach up at the school. Used to be just psych, but I'm adding a class on magical theory next term." Jenny grinned. "You liking it here so far?"

Dream leans onto the bar after a long day of trying to write his class schedule.

"I will have a glass of white wine."

"Hey, Tino!" GOB stopped. "Oh, I can serve wine." He looked under the bar. "Hey, Tino! Where's the white wine?"

After getting help from Tino, GOB poured Dream a glass. "I haven't seen you around here before," GOB said. He hadn't seen most people around before, actually, but that wasn't useful small talk.

"I don't come into town often," Dream says. "My responsibilities usually kepe me away."

He sips at his wine. "This seems to have come from a box," he observes.

GOB looked over to Tino. "Tino! Where's the bottled wine?"

"Sorry about that, sir," GOB apologized while the bottled white wine was pointed out to him. "Tino isn't that bright."

If Tino made a face at him, GOB didn't notice.

"It is fine," Dream says, sipping his new drink. "This is much improved." He would say no more, but he feels strangely obliged to make conversation.

"Have you worked here for long?"

"I've been performing here for a couple months. I do a magic show," GOB explained, unaware that he was talking to the third person tonight who would be completely unimpressed by his illusions. Really, what are the odds? "This is the first time I'm playing host, though."

GOB figured that there had to be an advantage to playing host for a night. As far as he was concerned, the host got free drinks. "Hey, Tino! Scotch me!"

Tino may have spit in the glass. GOB wasn't paying any attention to him, though, so he wouldn't know.
