Caritas: Open [2/7]

Lorne seems to be in a slightly less chipper mood than he has been lately. He makes sure that the bar is fully stocked and that the zombie band has all their appendages, but his mood is somewhat somber.

Which may be why his choice of an opening number seems... different.

For singing of course...

Deciding that perhaps the local bar may be the best place to get a grip on what's going on in Fandom, Natalie arrives shortly after dusk. She makes her way to the bar and seats herself on a stool. As she waits, she watches others in the room.

Lorne pops up from behind the bar and gives the newcomer a large grin. "Evening Kitten! Welcome to Caritas. I'm Lorne and I'm the head honcho, chief bartender and lead balladeer of this joint. What can I get you to drink?"

Natalie blinks at what is very obviously a demon. She gives a laugh at his salutation. "Uhm, I'll have a glass of white wine -- whatever's good."

Lorne pulls out a bottle and opens it with grandiose movements. "Now are you new around town? Or is this just your first visit to my little corner of Fandom?" Lorne asks as he pours the woman a drink.

"New in town, actually. I just moved in yesterday." Natalie watches him pour the drink. "I'm, ah, supposed to start work at the clinic, but I don't have to report for a day or two yet. I thought what better place to get the local scoop than here?" She leans forward a bit on her folded arms.

"Ahh... the clinic. Yes I heard our good Dr. Wilson left us not to long ago. So now how much do you know about this place?" Lorne asked as he poured himself a drink. "Because in case you haven't been able to tell, it's a little on the strange side."

"I know very little about this place really," Natalie said. She took a sip of her wine. "Of course, I realized things might be a little strange when I learned my landlord looked like a troll."

"Oh honey, that's just the tip of the iceberg around here," Lorne said with a chuckle. "Trolls, I haven't heard about. But in town we've had an angel, some demons (other than yours truly), a couple of vampires and the other weekend we were invaded by snow men."

Lorne takes a sip of his drink. "It may be a tad strange, but it is never on the boring side."

Natalie almost choked on her drink. Did Nick know about these other vampires before he arranged her stay here? And would these other vampires report to the Enforcers?

She shook off the initial shock, and managed to recover gracefully. "Vampires?" she asked. The obvious question about snow monsters would have to wait.

Lorne gave Natalie a sympathetic look and a refill on her glass of wine. "I know it's hard to believe, but here in Fandom vampires are real. The students up at the high school recently did a way with a bunch, but I still wouldn't be walking alone at night," Lorne said as he put the bottle away. "However that's probably not the strangest thing that's ever happened around here. In fact our old mayor used to be a wolf, if that tells you anything about this place."

Bel arrived early at Caritas to steady himself with ~~a lot of~~ a few drinks and to talk to Lorne about possible song choices.

Vampires are real outside of Fandom, too, Lorne, she thought. And the students up at the school did away with some here? Would she have to worry?

Natalie took her glass in hand, and took another sip, mulling over her new-found information. "A wolf? Or a werewolf?" She chuckled.

"Just a regular wolf," Lorne said with a grin. "Except for the fact that it could talk and owned a tattoo parlor. Our new mayor is human though, she owns the local gun shop"

"Hey there handsome," Lorne said in greeting as he poured Bel a drink. "How's life treating you big guy?"

Sam walked in not too long after Bel. "Glad to see you made it. Any luck with the flowers or poetry yet?"

Natalie shook her head with a smile. "Which, of course, is perfectly normal by comparison."

"Normal isn't a term we use a lot around here," Lorne says as he swirled his drink around in his glass. "If things ever got truly normal around here I'd die of shock."

Natalie smirked. "Almost a dirty word?"

"Pretty crappy, actually," Bel said, downing a shot. "My girl and I broke up. That's why I'm here -- I want to sing to her tonight to try to get her back. Marty's idea."

"I ordered flowers and Professor Chaucer wrote up a copy of a poem for me," Bel said. "They're going to be delivered here tonight to her. Thought I'd come by here early to pick out what I'm going to sing. Anything but Manilow."

A drink for celebration is just what Orlin needs. He has had a good day.

"Yes, but unfortunately not in the fun way," Lorne said with a laugh, "Bwah! I kill me!"
