Lucas opened up the shop and then promptly fell asleep behind the sales desk. He might have been up a touch to late the night before after getting back from Caritas.

Today's music mix: the mellow melodies of Bach. Of course, someone might have left some Van Halen in the stereo, too. . . .

Ivanova was a busy little girl. After her stop at All and Sundries, she limped into the music store to look for presents. Her only challenge? Finding some way to convert CDs to crystals.

Maybe she'd just buy CD players for everyone . . .

Lucas snored softly behind the sales desk. Alas, the Van Halen had not yet kicked in.

Ivanova snickered as she passed the sleeping guy behind the counter. After a moment's thought, she headed towards the compilations. Best way to get a representative sample of twenty-first century Earth music, right?

One Hit Wonders? Ivanova picks up the CD and flips it over, reading the track list as one eyebrow lifted. 'Ice Ice Baby'? 'The Sugarhill Gang'? Garibaldi is going to love this.

A series of power chords ripped through the tiny store.

I live my life like there's no tomorrow--

Lucas sat up with a jerk and a "no more sausages!", then peered around blearily. He fumbled with some of the buttons on the remote for the sound system, looking vaguely pained.

"Veto, veto!"

He spotted Ivanova. "Can I help you find something?!"

Ivanova practically levitated as the Bach became rock, dropping the CD in her hand with a clatter, then jumped again when she was addressed.

"Ack!" She placed a hand to her chest, her heart slowing to a normal rhythm. "I was looking for something, I don't know, typical of modern music. A present for a friend back home." Or several friends, depending on what she found.

Lucas hit several more buttons, and ended up with the 1812 overture. He desperately stabbed at the buttons over and over again.

"What genre?! R&B?! Hip-hop?! Rock?!"

"Um, one of each?" Ivanova replied, bending over to retrieve the CD she had dropped. "And I'm definitely getting this (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000CC3MWE/sr=8-36/qid=1140638860/ref=sr_1_36/104-4097635-2608739?%5Fencoding=UTF8)."

Lucas let out a somewhat pained squawk, but if that were because the music had suddenly switched to Hanson, or because of the tracks listed on the CD she'd chosen, it was hard to tell.

"I have some mix CDs I keep on hand for just such emergencies." Lucas pulled out a few discs. "There's your modern 'rock', including some neo-punk, some 'alternative', and a little bit of the rock-metal blend," he set down another, "and your R&B and hip-hop, including some of the great gangstas as well as a few more . . . mainstream artists." He rang everything else and *handwaved* a reasonable price. "Anything else?"

"Something . . ." What was the term? "New Age? Not for me. Friend of mine. She's really, ah, Zen I believe is how she'd best be described."

Lucas nodded and, still pressing buttons on his remote, went and grabbed another CD for her. "Will this do?"

She nodded, grinning. "Looks great, thanks."

"No problem." Lucas stabbed at a final button and finally retrieved his Bach with a happy sigh. "I hope your friends enjoy."

"I'm sure they will," Ivanova grinned as she handed him the *handwavey* correct amount of money.

Lucas smiled back. He might have been starting to get a little bit drowsy again.

Someday, he will learn not to listen to Bach while working.
