Darla still remained locked up at the station. If it was up to Tex, she would have beheaded the vampire by now, but that pesky claim of having a soul was keeping her hands tied. Suffice to say that Tex really hated politics and sometimes missed the part of her job where she got to wipe out an entire base.

Anyone want to talk to Tex on the way in?

Piper stopped by the Fandom Troopers Station, on her way to see Darla.

Tex for once was there, waiting for Parker. She raised an eyebrow as she noticed the teenager. "What do you want?"

"I'm, uh, here to see Darla... Parker called me and told me to get down here as soon as possible. I'm supposed to do a spell to see if Darla's telling the truth or not about having a soul?" She glanced nervously at Tex.

"What? She was too lazy to walk down here herself?" Tex tilted her head and studied the girl.

"I'm a witch," Piper said as if that explained everything. She dialed Parker's number, greeted her, then handed the phone over to Tex. "Parker will explain."

"Tex? Parker. We have a spell that will be able to tell us if Darla is unsouled. If you let Piper do this spell, you'll have all the proof you need that she's a danger to public safety, assuming we're all right and she doesn't have a soul."

"If that thing has a soul, then I'm the toothfaerie." Tex snorted and handed the telephone back to Piper. "I'll take you to the cell."

Darla is in her cell. Still. Bored. Massively.

Quite possibly being staked would be better than this. At least it would be more interesting.

After getting a rather urgent phone call from Parker, Piper made her toward Darla's cell. She didn't for one moment believe she actually had a soul.

Darla turned her head when she sensed someone approaching her cell, and smiled when she saw a brown-haired girl. "A visitor. How lovely. I feel like I haven't talked to anyone in weeks."

Tex followed behind Piper and snorted at Darla's comment. "Gee, I wonder why? You've got such a sparkling personality."

Darla ~~got home from work~~ glared at Tex. "I imagine that they were avoiding you," she said sweetly.

"I'd hope so," Tex agreed cheerfully and turned to Piper. "So how are you going to do this mumbo jumbo stuff?"

"I'm gonna need an empty cell if that's okay," Piper said. "I need some quiet for this spell to work."

Tex nodded to one of the troopers standing guard in the hall and he moved to open up the cell beside Darla.

"What spell?" Darla asked anxiously. "What are you doing to me now?"

Piper glared at Darla. "Nothing you need to be concerned about."

"We're going to give you nice and curly hair," Tex sneered.

Eyes wide, Darla backed away from the door of the cell. She looked scared.

Piper walked into the empty cell to begin the A Tirer la Courture spell. She took a match and used it to burn incense. Then she made a sand circle, sitting inside it.

After a few moments of meditating, she entered a trance, oblivious to everything around her. Except for Darla. She stood up and walked over to her cell, glancing at the aura around her.

Eventually, she came out of the trance, blinking a few times. She glanced at Tex. "Seems she is telling the truth about a having a soul."

Piper's only expression was confusion.

Darla said nothing, just watched the witch intently.

Not the answer Tex had been suspecting. She shook her head and looked from Piper to Darla. "There's no way that thing has a soul. You got a fake result."

"I did the spell exactly as I was supposed to," Piper said. She really wasn't expecting this result at all.

Darla glared at Tex. "You can't whine just because you were proven wrong."

"I can do whatever the hell I want in my town," Tex said to Darla and turned to Piper. "Birth control in this century is only 99%. Can you get a second opinion?"

Piper sighed. "This spell always works. If it says she has a soul, then she does."

Tex cursed and moved to the bars of the call. She knew Appo was right and she couldn't keep Darla locked up without evidence. Well, she could, but people would start asking questions and killing half of your town probably wasn't good for her next usurping campaign.

"Listen, you bitch. I don't care if you have a soul or not. I might not be able to keep you in jail, but I own this island and the minute you so much as breathe wrong, I'll take you down."

Darla watched Tex. "Fine. I don't want to hurt anyone, so that isn't a problem. Just let me out!"

Piper watched as Tex ordered the troopers to release Darla. She sighed, not happy at all.

"If it were up to me, you'd be vanquished right now," she said, giving her another icy glare.

[ooc: Tex and the troopers were totally modded with permission, omg.]

"What did I ever do to hurt you?" Darla said angrily.

"Nothing to me," Piper said, this time more calm. "You hurt a lot of people. Not something I'm going to forget."

Darla just shook her head. "I'm not that person anymore. I'm not a soulless monster. I'm sorry for what I did before, but I'm not the same."

"You better go before I really do vanquish you," Piper said, annoyed.

Darla nodded and walked to the exit of the jail. She turned back. "Thank you," she said quietly.

Piper didn't say anything, just watched Darla leave, followed by Tex.

After a few moments, Piper started walking back toward the dorms. She reached for her cell phone and dialed Parker's number to let her know what's going on.

"Parker."

"It's Piper," she said, sounding somewhat distressed. "I cast the spell. You're not gonna like it..."

She paused before continuing. "The spell revealed that Darla does, in fact, have a soul."

"You have *got* to be kidding me." Parker rubbed her head. "God. Damn. It." She sighed, then asked, "So Tex had to let her go?"

"Had no choice," Piper sighed.

"Crap. Where did Darla go? I assume she's already out of there?"

"Yeah, she's gone. I don't know where she went. I assume wherever she lives." Piper still couldn't believe this.

"Damnit, damnit, right. Okay. Thanks for trying, Piper. You did your best. I appreciate that. I just need to figure out what we do now, because even if she's souled, that woman is psycho."

"Oh, I know she is." Piper shook her head. "I wish there was something more I could do."

Parker pinched the bridge of her nose. "Just be careful on your way back here, and maybe-- I don't know. We'll think of something in the morning. It's too late to go looking for her now. Okay?"

Piper nodded. "Yeah, I agree about the lateness. I guess we will think of something later."

"And I'll be careful," she added.

"Good. Thanks again, Piper. See you when you're back."

Parker hung up and then pounded her head on her desk. Just. Fabulous.

Piper would headdesk if she actually had one at the moment.
