Caritas - Open [4/13]

Veronica is at work, but she's still not in the greatest of moods.

She keeps waiting for the other shoe to drop.

[ooc: Veronica is in and I'm online. However, Veronica will be leaving early tonight for plot reasons, so you're warned :)]

"Hello, Veronica. I haven't seen you in a while--how are you doing?" Jarod walked behind the bar and began looking for something. "Have you seen a copy of the Boy Scout handbook lying around? Plus, I forgot my paycheck yesterday."

"I'm doing okay, how are you?" Veronica asked, opening the drawer of the cash register to get out Jarod's check.

"What's this I hear about you and Parker?"

He took the check. "I don't know. What did you hear about Parker and I?"

"That you're together," she said, tilting her head slightly.

Archie made his way down to Caritas, still feeling a bit embarrassed about the whole computer lab incident, so it was with an uncharacteristic bit of hesitation that he sat down at the bar.

[OOC: Leaving work now. Just establishing presence for now. *g*]

Jarod, like every other male, was not immune to the head tilt. "We are, yes."

"It must be my lucky week," Veronica said by way of greeting. "What brings you in on a Thursday? And are you having beer or whiskey tonight?"

"Well, good for you," Veronica said. "I'm happy for you both. How's everything going?"

"Thanks," he smiled a bit goofily at her. "I'm happy for us, too. Right now things are going well. What about you? Are you seeing...Weevil? Is that right?"

"Oh, no, Weevil and I are just friends," Veronica said hastily. "He's dating one of my roommates. I'm with Logan Echolls, you probably don't know him."

"Oh, okay." Obviously he didn't have dating dynamics and inter-personal chemistry completely understood. "Logan Echolls?"

He tried to hide the tensing of his jaw as he casually asked, "Is there more than one Logan at the school?"

"There was last semester, but I'm pretty sure he's the only one now." Veronica looked at Jarod. "He didn't say anything to you, did he? I told him to be nice to you."

"Right." Jarod wasn't pleased about that piece of information, and personally thought Veronica could do much better, if she wanted to. "No, I haven't met him yet. I've just heard a few stories."

Like how he put Parker into the hospital with a bleeding ulcer.

Lana came in quietly and waited.

"I'm guessing they weren't favorable stories," Veronica said.

"Not all of them, no."

"He's not the easiest person to get along with," Veronica admitted. "And I know he and Parker had a pretty acrimonious relationship last semester. It was before we were back together though."

Kiki smiled and waved at Lana as she came in.

Ordering a hot tea, Kiki sat down. "Hi!" she said cheerfully, although her voice was raspy and her eyes looked glassy with tiredness. "How's it going?"

She coughed, and made a wry face. "I know, I know, I sound bad! I'll be fine, really."

Jarod poured himself a glass of ice water. "You've dated him before? I guess it speaks well of him that you've decided to do so again."

And he knew Parker wasn't the easiest to get along with, either.

"Yeah, we dated back in Neptune last year," Veronica said, feeling slightly awkward because of everything that was going on at the moment.

She shrugged. "He's not a bad guy though."

"I'm okay," Lana said quietly. "Just waiting for Phoebe. You too?"
