All and Sundries, 4/21

Flowers! There has been a floral explosion in All and Sundries. Apparently Edmund's nice civilized chat with the flower wholesaler has borne excellent fruit - or flowers. Whatever.

There are bouquets, nosegays, corsages, floral crowns, floral wreaths, leis, boutonnieres - you name it, for today and tomorrow, he has it.

All and Sundries is open.

Walter comes in and grabs a variety of ~~handwaved~~ lunch ingredients and stops to stare at the flowers.

Quickly, he picks up a boutonniere (http://www.viviano.com/images/prodshots/T097-05.jpg) and adds that to his purchases.

Since Walter was going to be the girl for the evening, that meant it was up to Nadia to get him a corsage. Fortunately, she felt she had an advantage in this, what with having been the one to pick out Walter's dress, and, you know, being female.

The profusion of flowers combined with the usual odoriferous nature of Baldrick, who seemed determined to sell her a radish rosette boutineer, created a nigh dizzying miasma of scents, so Nadia was quick to grab a corsage and get. the heck. out.

Blair bounced in and picked up a corsage.

Angela found and purchased a pair of gold strappy sandals in her size.

Pip slips in after talking with Janet and picks up a corsage. Apparently, it's important.

Edmund is in. Why? He's really not sure.

Ivanova arrives before going into work, coffee and croissants in hand. "Hey, Ed -" She blinked and stopped dead at the sudden profusion of flowers, anything else she may have said completely lost in floral awe. "Whoa."

"Good morning, Ivanova." Edmund watched her floral awe with satisfaction. That was well worth having to trot out some of his preferred tortures as threats to the wholesaler.

"That's . . . a lot of flowers," she said, blinking again and shaking her head. She held out a coffee and the bag of croissants, snagging one for herself. "I brought breakfast. Ish."

"Thank you." Edmund took the coffee and bag with a smile. "I had heard that this prom event required flowers, and I can be very convincing when I choose."

"So I can see," Ivanova murmured dryly, leaning on the counter. "A very nice display, Edmund." No, she wasn't starting to feel a little wilty that Pip wasn't going to get her flowers. Don't be ridiculous. She really didn't care.

Edmund was not oblivious to other very nice displays happening on his counter. He was, however, very interested in not chasing Ivanova away, so he busied himself rustling around in the bag she had given him.

"Have you resolved your prom difficulties?"

"I have. Well, they resolved themselves. I have the dress and a date to go with it tall enough that I can get away with the strappy heels it deserves."

She, on the hand, was oblivious to Edmund's non-obliviousness. She was still distracted by the flowers.

"Excellent." Ignore that slight green tinge to his skin. "And will I be seeing your escort that I may ensure you get a proper corsage?"

Ivanova sighed and shrugged. "I really have no idea. He didn't seem too big on all the prom traditions, and when I mentioned flowers . . . well, there might have been a 'bloody hell' involved."

"That will never do." Edmund shook his head and scowled in a manner that was supposed to look fake, but which had a little too much verisimilitude going for it. "What color is your gown?"

The scowl was looking just a wee bit too realistic, and Ivanova's eyes twitched. Not narrowed. She was giving him the benefit of the doubt at the moment.

"Royal blue," she replied. "I wish I had a picture or something . . ." Not that she wasn't incredibly fond of the dress. She very much was. It was, after all, a very beautiful dress.

"Royal blue..." Edmund nodded. "I'm certain you will be the blue rose of the ball."

Considering what might go best with royal blue as a corsage? Possibly.

"Blue rose?" Ivanova smirked. For some reason that caught her as funny, that Edmund had compared her to something that doesn't exist in nature. "Speaking of flowers, do you sell gardening stuff? I need a pot and some potting soil . . ."

"Yes, I do. What size pot do you require? I can have Baldrick fetch those things for you."

From his perspective, Ivanova was something that didn't exist in nature. Which didn't make her any less beautiful to him. Not that he'd say that part aloud.

Ivanova indicated a suitably large pot with her hands. "I think that should be big enough. She's just a small plant but apparently she's been growing really quickly."

Edmund called Baldrick over with the description and directions and sent the smelly man on his way.

"What sort of plant is this?" And why was Ivanova calling it she?

"I have no idea," Ivanova chuckled. "She's green and leafy and came from a mystery seed that Blair gave me." She shook her head. "Obviously been spending too much time with him because I'm calling it 'she'."

"With this town, one can never be certain." He took the pot and potting soil from Baldrick and set them on the counter. "Take these gratis. If you want to insist you owe me something," he said to preempt any protest, "just bring me coffee and croissants now and then."

Ivanova almost reached over to feel his forehead. Earlier, she might have actually done so. "Giving something away for free?" she asked, eyebrow raised. "Edmund, are you feeling alright?"

"Do you know how much Jeff, God of Biscuits charges for delivery?" Edmund asked, raising his own eyebrow to show that Blackadders do that extraordinarily well. "I believe I am getting a bargain out of this deal."

She wagged a finger at him, but she was smiling. "Fine. I'll let it slide this time. And thank you very much. I'm sure Talia will appreciate her new home." She paused before offering him a smile. "I appreciate it, too."

"My pleasure, my dear." He returned the smile. "Always."

"And once again I have to run to work," Ivanova said with an abashed smile, collecting the gardening stuff and looping the bag over her arm. "I will shill for your flowers for all I'm worth to any prom-goers I encounter."

"See, that's well worth the meager cost of a pot and some dirt." And if anyone was going to get anything free out of Edmund, it would be Ivanova.

Ivanova flashed a grin at him as she left, waving with her coffee, and set off down the street with a bounce in her step.
