Empire Records and Bidet [5/5]

In honor of the holiday, Lucas is playing every vaguely Latin or Mexican CD he has in stock.

He's not wearing a sombrero though. That'd just be silly.

Empire Records and Bidet is open for business.

Nadia comes into Empire quite cheerfully, because she's never had any dreams that took place at the store, and her clothes didn't disappear in the common room.

"Hola Lucas!"

"Nadia." Lucas smiled. "What can I do for you? It's not Sunday."

"I know. I need a birthday present for Pippi. And Pirate-y dance music."

Walter came in and spotted Nadia talking to Lucas. For a moment he had a brief image of Lucas in the sparkly Mae West gown he'd pictured Alfred in the night before.

That was horrifically wrong.

"Hi Nadia. Lucas."

Nadia grinned. "Hey Walter!"

Lucas nodded, noting Nadia's grin. "Walter. Don't tell me, more ABBA? Or do you want to try the Partridge Family, now?"

Walter grinned back at Nadia before shaking his head at Lucas. "No, I'm here to help Nadia for Pippi's birthday. Something pirate themed for the girl pirate." Not Rum, Sodomy, and the Lash.

Lucas noted Walter's grin as well. Hmm. He glanced at the clock.

Okay, so it wasn't actually 1:37 exactly, but it was close enough.

"Sure, we've got a large selection of pirate music, actually." Lucas started leading the way through the shop. "Nadia, would you mind grabbing a few more button backs from the back room for me? We're running low out here."

"That depends, can I get an advance on my pay so I can actually get Pippi a present?"

"Yeah. Sure. Whatever. Thanks." Lucas waited for Nadia to duck out of sight and earshot before turning back to Walter. "Okay, you're dating my employee?"

Meep.

"Not exactly." Was this another death threat? Would the words "friends with kissing" precipitate one?

Lucas raised an eyebrow. "So. What, exactly?"

"We're good friends ~~with kissing~~." What was it with nosy bosses?

The eyebrow remained raised. "And that's why you apparently woke up together and are grinning at each other like idiots." Lucas shrugged. "Fine, that's all great. But Nadia doesn't exactly have a father around to do these sorts of things, so I'd just like to let you know, if you hurt her, I will make you very, very unhappy."

"Nothing happened!" Walter shut his mouth with a snap. Waking up together didn't mean they'd slept together in the euphemistic sense.

"If it makes you feel any better, you'll have to make my kneecapless corpse unhappy. I've already heard this from two others." One was Nadia's cat, but he wasn't really going to volunteer that.

"Hey, Lucas, I couldn't find the button backs, but I did find--" Nadia stopped a few feet away from the back door, looking from Walter to Lucas and back. Then she crossed her arms. This was getting ridiculous.

"You know," she said to her boss. "You don't actually have to threaten him. I can take care of myself."

Which would be when her clothing vanished.

Of for chrissake.

Lucas blinked.

Then averted his eyes.

Walter might have taken a tic longer to look away, but he did.

"Can I give you my shirt?" Again.

Nadia facepalmed. She was standing in the middle of the store, in her underwear.

Generally, she wouldn't have much of a problem with just standing about in a bra and panties. But the only clean ones she'd had were her old, slightly torn panties and her warped strapless bra.

So she was standing in the middle of the store in ugly underwear.

"That was already your shirt." She'd better be able to get that back. She sighed and ducked back into the backroom. "I'll be right back."

Walter was getting very, very paranoid.

Maybe he'd pick up some underwear at All and Sundries.

And he'd seen Nadia in a swimsuit, so why would seeing her in her underwear be any different? Because it's underwear, dolt.

Nadia re-emerged from the backroom wearing a bright orange apron over her underwear.

She hadn't been able to find anything else.

"From now on, I'm keeping a change of clothes with me everywhere I go."

Walter blinked at the scant coverage provided by the apron. "Are you sure you want to go out like that?" At least it wasn't cold.

Lucas was smirking at Nadia's choice of attire. He wished he had a camera, because he really needed to send that image to Gina.

"It's been done before."

Nadia looked down at herself. "What? All the important bits are covered."

Just enough to require that the imagination pay attention to them. Walter decided he might spend a good bit of time looking at his feet until Nadia was more covered.

"Right. So. Er... Music?"

Nadia proudly held up a CD as chest level. "Perfect for Pippi! But it's a box set. I can just barely afford it with my discount."

Shoes. Oh look, he needed to fix the edge dressing on that one. Oh. He was going to have to look up, wasn't he? CD. Just look at the CD. Why was this so weird?

"I'll take care of the party decorations, you go ahead and get the box set for Pippi."

Yes! Perfect pirate party for Pippi!

She bounced over and gave Walter a kiss on the cheek. "Thanks!"

Lucas was smirking like there was no tomorrow.

Eep! Walter shot Lucas a look and nodded at Nadia. With her this close, the looking at the shoes trick was, at best, counterproductive. Um... ceiling displays. Yes.

"We have to do right by Pippi, right?"

Nadia was not oblivious to Walter's discomfort. She just thought it was kind of cute.

"Absolutely. So, All and Sundries, next?"
