Caritas - Open [5/9]

Veronica had spent the day packing and mostly avoiding the insanity of the newbie check-in. Not that she didn't want to meet the new people, just that she was still a little overwhelmed about the whole graduation thing. And now she had to pack up all of her belongings and move from the attic to the first floor. It was going to be a long week.

She checked the Zombie Band, taping the drummer's hand back on, and opened the club.

[Some info on Caritas for the new folks.

1. We don't card.
2. The club is protected by a sanctuary spell so there is no violence. If someone attempts to commit an act of violence, all involved parties will disappear in a flash of light and find themselves elsewhere.
3. The Zombie Band knows any song you can think of and, because of #2, are perfectly harmless.
4. There is always a fully moddable bartender named Tino working if you don't want to RP with the bartender on duty.]

Lindsey conferred quickly with the zombie band, pointed once to Piper, and then walked to the microphone.

"This one's for Piper," he said with a grin. Then he started singing.

"Well, hello to you. Congratulations on graduating," Veronica said, rolling her eyes as she reached for the bottle of whiskey.

"You too," Logan said absently. Then he frowned at her. "Did you hear yet?"

Veronica's eyes widened. "So you're drinking to celebrate?"

Archie hadn't been feeling up to meeting all the new people just yet, and so had been hiding out in his room for the majority of the day; it was later than usual when he finally stopped in for his usual Tuesday night visit to Caritas.

"Veronica," he said, frowning as he realized she was in considerably worse shape than the last time he'd seen her. "What's wrong?"

"He... he... was acquitted," Veronica said, in obvious disbelief, draining her second glass of whiskey.

"Bloody hell," snarled Archie. Some things didn't change over two centuries; travesties of justice were, unfortunately, among them. He clenched his fists on the countertop and watched as she drained the glass. "Veronica, how many have you had?"

"That was number two," she said, reaching for the bottle to fill it again.

Archie's hand closed around the bottle a split second before Veronica's did. "I'm not ordinarily one to frown upon imbibing, but we can't afford for you to be incapacitated tonight," he said sternly. "Please?"

Veronica swallowed hard but nodded, letting him take the bottle.

"I can't do this," she said, on the verge of tears. "I don't know what to do knowing that he's out there somewhere."

Having left Bruiser at home, she headed down into town to find what seemed like the only place a girl could get a drink. Glass in hand, she wandered around looking for other new faces.

Lindsey headed into the lounge with Piper and found a couple seats in a corner.

"Got any requests for songs tonight?"

"Uh, a song?" Lindsey shrugged. "I dunno. Definitely want to sing though. Thought it might be nice to sing something you wanted to hear."

"I think I can manage that." Lindsey nodded once and headed for the stage. "Can't promise it'll be a good surprise though!"
