Elle bounced in, wearing almost half black...of course the rest was pastel pink. "Hi Lucas! Ooh! Clay, you're so cool." she said with a cheerful smile as she sat her Bruiser-filled bag on the counter.

[I'll be slow, I have meetings and lectures today]

Lucas smiled. "Elle! Good to see you!"

"It's good to see you too, Lucas. I've been so busy with my workshop Monday and my new project with Jay yesterday so I thought I'd come in and see how you were doing and if I maybe left my earring in your pocket or something because if I dropped it on the beach I'll never find it." she chattered as she pulled off her jacket and fluffed her hair.

Lucas blinked a little. "Who's Jay?" He shook his head. "I haven't seen your earring, but I'd be happy to help you look."

"Jay is..." she paused to think of the best way to describe him. "He's, um, he's Bob's heterolifemate and he really would like a girl, so I'm helping him get some decent skills to find one." she explained cheerfully.

"Actually, you only have to help if you want to because I have like four hundred pairs of earrings and missing one pair won't matter that much and I'm pretty sure I dropped it on the beach when we were ki--watching the sunset." said with a blush rising in her cheeks.

"Hm." Lucas nodded. "Still, wouldn't hurt to go back and . . . look for it."

"Would you want to come with me after work and look until it gets to dark?" she asked innocently.

Lucas sighed. "Store's open till midnight. We could try looking tomorrow, though,"

"Open til Midnight? Do you really get a lot of customers that late?"

"Not really." Lucas shrugged. "It's kind of a . . . tradition."

"And you have to stay here that whole time?"

"I don't have many employees."

"So you'll be all alone?" she asked with a touch of pity.

Lucas looked around the store and nodded. "Usually." He glanced at Elle. "Don't suppose you'd like to . . . keep me company? We could discuss a strategy for your friend Jay."

She went from pity to ecstatic in half a second, her smile beaming at him as she bounced against the counter. "Ooh, Lucas! I'd love to! We can listen to music and talk about how to get a girl from a boy's perspective and I can do anything around here you want." she excliamed, then paused. "Workwise. To help. Since you do most of the work." she stammered.

Anything. . . . Lucas' expression went blank for a moment as he imagined the possbilities. He blinked and grinned at Elle. "Oh, don't worry about it. It's just really a bit of sweeping and couting out the drawer."

"I can so ~~stabinate lj sometimes~~ help do that. We'll be done in, like, half the time with two of us and then we can do...other things." she said, finishing at almost a whisper.

"Ah." Lucas's smile grew. "Well then, I think it's a great idea."

"Super!" she squeaked. "Oh! You know what? I can go get some food and come back after dark when it's all slow and we can eat and talk and listen to music that you like."

Lucas nodded. "That sounds like a brilliant idea."

"Then I'll be back after a while, with food and fun and me!" she chirped as she picked up her jacket and bag, "Unless you want anything right now..." she offered.

Lucas leaned against the counter, still smiling at her. "I can be patient. I'll see you in a bit, then."

Clay Aiken and Stevie Wonder

John wanders in during Stevie, and runs the hell out at the first Achin' song.

Lucas watches this with a smirk.

She came back in a dress without her dog, but loaded down with sandwiches and other good things from Jeff's.

"Lucas! I'm back!" she called.

"Elle!" Lucas looked up from where he was surfing the message boards for the latest Idol gossip.

"You say that like you didn't think I'd really show up!" she teased as she walked with small, careful steps. Four inch hee's made her a decent height, but the drawback was the amount of concentration it took just to walk.

Lucas was having much too much fun enjoying watching her walk to notice that she was wearing heels. "Well, on this island, you never know what could have happened."

"Pffft. Nothing's going to happen. The worst thing I've seen here was this girl wearing the most horrid shade of green I've ever seen. It was truly frightening, but not dangerous. I got you the same as me, I hope you don't mind a veggie wrap." she said as she unloaded food.

"Veggie is fine." Lucas could just eat meat when Elle wasn't around. "And don't discount the dangers of this town too soon, my first weekend here we were attacked by snow men."

She looked out the window, then looked back with her head cocked to one side. "No snow. Not too worried about seasonal dangers." she said, trying not to think he was insane.

"So. Let's eat and then we'll get to work, ok? This will be the best night ever. Really."

Lucas smiled. He hoped Elle wouldn't have to be "broken in" to the weirdness of Fandom too soon. Her naivete was cute. "Of course. You're right."

"Those are the words a girl likes to hear. Right up there with 'take my credit card, poodle'...or maybe that's just me." she said witha giggle and slid him his food.

Lucas . . . did not have a credit card. He had a debit card, which was enough of a tool of the Man as he felt he could handle. He took the food. "We'll have to remember that for Jay."

She looke dvery excited at the prospect. "Oh yeah! I wonder what kind of pet name he'd come up with for a girl? I'd hope it wouldn't be anything...um...not sweet." she said diplomatically.

Lucas vaguely remembered meeting Jay at Orlin's party several months ago. He suspected it would be pretty 'not sweet'. But heartfelt. "Of course it won't. He'll have you to coach him."

She took a bite and chewed slowly as she thought. "Hmm." sh emurmured then took a drink of her soda. "Help me come up with a list of sweet things boys call girls?" she asked.

Lucas also paused to think. For some reason, his brain kept offering up Rex Manning lyrics . . . which really weren't helping. "Well, you mentioned 'Poodle', but more traditionally there's 'honey', 'love' . . . I always liked 'doll', but that's more for swingers."

She grabbed a piece of scratch paper and a pen and began writing the down. Honey. Love. Doll. "I like sweetie. My daddy calls me poodle." she said as she added Sweetie, Sugar, and Pumpkin.

"Ducks." Lucas said. He'd heard that in a movie somewhere, he thought. "Though I think they're better if they're based on who the girl is."

"What would you call me, Lucas?" she asked, strictly in the interest of research.

Lucas had known the instant he opened his mouth that would be her next question.

Didn't stop him from flailing internally, though.

Tread carefully. Do NOT say "Snookums".

"Daisy." He said at last. "You're bright, cheerful, and surprisingly casual."

She smiled wide and scrunched up her shoulders. "Oh, Lucas! That's the sweetest thing ayone has ever said!" she chirped, leaning into his shoulder.

Phew!

Lucas just shrugged and smiled. "Just telling the truth."

"Ok, Jay can't have Daisy...ooh, wasn't she on that show with those boys and taht car and she wore really short shorts?" she asked, considering that fashion statement.

Lucas rather liked that show. "As I recall, she was a rather independant woman."
