Caritas - Open [6/6]

After her workout with Cameron, Veronica had spent some time catching up on email correspondence and reading some websites. Then she took a nap, a shower and headed for work.

Lucky for her, she arrived before any odd weather began.

The zombies seemed sluggish, almost like they were coming down from a caffeine buzz, which was crazy, because where would zombies get caffeine? After making sure the band was together, Veronica opened the club.

[in theory, I'm in front of my computer all evening. in reality, there may be some slow tags if I decide to do stuff around the house.]

Veronica's in a good mood and would appreciate staying that way.

Hopefully Archie's presence wouldn't detract from that good mood.

"Well, if it isn't my favorite bartender," he said as he perched on his usual stool.

"Oh, you want Tino to wait on you tonight," Veronica teased. "Fine, see if I go on a picnic with you again."

Archie shook his head and sighed. "I assure you, Tino isn't half as pleasant to look at."

"So you just like me because I'm cute?" Veronica asked, still teasing.

"You've found me out," Archie teased back. "I'm a very shallow man."

Veronica shrugged. "Long as you're honest about it," she smirked before leaning across the bar for a kiss.

"I wouldn't lie about such things," Archie said as he leaned over and kissed her.

"What's your poison tonight?" Veronica asked with a grin.

"I'll take a pint of Tennant's tonight, I think," Archie answered. "How has your day been?"

Veronica gave him his beer and sat down with a diet coke since it was a slow night.

"It was good," she said. "I met Cameron in the gym this morning; he's teaching me self defense. And then I caught up on some online stuff I let slide while we were living in the cabins since my wireless kept going wonky there ~~much like tonight, ZOMG~~. Then I took a nap and came to work and hoped you'd be stopping by," she finished with a smile. "How about you?"

"I won't deny that it's good to hear you're learning to defend yourself," Archie said. "I spent most of the day preoccupied by studying up on gears and springs for my clockwork workshop. A capstan I can handle; wheels that tiny, ironically, are beyond me."

"You spent a gorgeous summer day studying?" Veronica asked, shaking her head. "What happened to having no ambitions?"

Archie ducked his head and acknowledged the hit. "I decided having a tiny bit of ambition was preferable to being utterly and completely confused. I might be too overwhelmed for those technology lessons you wanted to give me, otherwise."

"Utterly and completely confused is bad," Veronica agreed. "But I promise to teach you well enough that you don't need to study after our lessons."

"What exactly do you plan to teach me?" asked Archie, smirking just a tiny bit.

"Whatever you think you need to learn," Veronica replied in a completely innocent tone.

"And you'd take my word for it?"

"You wouldn't lie to me."

Archie dropped the smug facade and laughed. "I don't think I would dare."

Veronica laughed with him. "I'm not that scary, am I?" she asked.

"It has nothing to do with you being scary," said Archie, leaning on his forearms and smiling over at Veronica. "I've . . . found there are situations in which it's necessary to lie. But I'm not sure I can bring myself to do so to you."

I can't believe Julia Stiles is starring in a remake of The Omen.
