All and Sundries//Saturday Morning

After her rude awakening, Seras was eager to escape the doorms.

She headed off to work and opened up the shop early and spent the extra time setting up a small, but high quality television on the counter.

She tuned it to the England vs. Paraguay game, purely as a demonstration of its screen's amazing definition. The fact that she'd painted Union Jacks on her cheeks was purely a coincidence.

Of course.

All and Sundries is open.

There was much squeeing and twirling and tossing of glitter and turnips.

As Alfred walked by All and Sundries, he poked his head in to see who was manning the store. When he saw that it was Seras, he grinned, raised a fist, and said "England!"

Seras paused, shook the glitter from her hair, and grinned back.

"England!" she said, raising her own fist.

Clark entered and paused as the young woman danced. He looked puzzled.

Baldrick sidled up behind Clark.

"The young miss is a bit preoocupied at the moment, sir," he said, "Might I 'elp you?"

Clark looked startled, and then made a valient effort to not be disgusted with the man's appearance and smell. "Uhm, y-yes do you have any duck food?"

Baldrick scratched his head.

It was best not to think of what those tiny, jumping specks might be, really.

"We might, 'ave, sir. What sort've food would yer ducks be wating to eat?"

Clark furrowed his brow in thought, and not in disgust. He didn't think the stale bread would really cut it. It'd been eating crackers at the moment, but there had to be something specifically duck like right?
"Uhm, cracked corn?" he guessed.

"Cracked corn? You're sure they wouldn't rather have some nice fresh worms? Or maybe some lovely grubs. I'd have nothing but grubs all day, if I were a duck..."

Baldrick sounded wistful.

"I'm...sure you would." clark said. They hadn't had ducks on the farm, too dry. "Then yes, grubs I suppose."

Baldrick nodded.

"Right. This may take a moment," he said, "Please feel free to browse the store in the meantime, m'lord."

Clark nodded and found himself constantly looking in the direction Baldrick had gone. There was something oddly fascinating about the filthy man. Like a train wreck.

Seras finally ceased dancing and turned to notice her new customer.

"Oh, I'm sorry, Sir," she said, "Can I help you?"

Clark again started. "Oh uhm, I think I'm being helped. that is if that...gentleman works here?" he pointed in the direction Baldrick had gone."

"Baldrick? Oh, yes. He does. He..."

Seras trailed off, not sure what exactly to say about Baldric.

He just *was*, really.

"I was looking for duck food, he said that they liked grubs?"

Seras went a bit red in the face at the mention of ducks.

She recovered and cleared her throat.

"I suppose--"

She broke off when Baldrick returned with a smallish burlap sack clasped in one hand.

"Here we are," he said, "My 'ole collection. I was saving 'em for a special occasion. But, the customer's always right."

Clar had grown up on a farm so he actually had little trouble not being disgusted at the burlap sack. He was pretty sure he didn't want to know why Baldrick was saving grubs.

"Oh," Clark said. "I don't want to deprive you of those, especially if it took you a while to collect them."

"That's alright m'lord. There's more where they came from."

Clark supposed that was true. Thank god he'd taken Elle's advice and was wearing jeans instead of his usual slacks. The sack wouldn't look quite as out of place.

"How, uhm, how much?"

"Ah, can't help you there, sir. 'M not allowed near the cash. Young Miss Victoria here'll ring you in."

Seras looked blank.

"I will?"

Clark looked from one to the other, only a very slight smirk on his face.

Seras grumbled, snatched the bag from Baldrick and, touching it as little as possible.

Gingerly, she set it down on the scale near the register and gave Clark his total.

Clark handed her the money, noting that it was approaching the time when he'd have to give up on finding work, and leave.

"there you go. Sorry for the trouble."
