All and Sundries//Wednesday Morning

Seras was seated behind the counter and everything looked quite usual in All and Sundries. Apart from the fact that the vodka display had disappeared. And, the rum display. And pretty much any fermented beverage, really. Waking up with a brutal hang over and nearly no recollection of the past day tended to put a gal off her booze.

All and Sundries is open

Veronica had promised to introduce him to some more modern music, so Archie had told her that he would buy a CD player.

Ergo, he was in All and Sundries, mulling over his options with an increasingly perplexed expression. In the end, he chose the least expensive one and hoped it would work.

Not that he had a clue about CD-R compatibility.

"I think so," Archie said, smiling at the girl. He recognized her from Caritas last week, he thought, though he couldn't remember her name. "I just need a CD player. The simpler the better, I think."

He held up the small CD player stereo almost self-consciously as he headed for the counter.

"I don't know anything about either of them, really. They weren't exactly widespread in the late eighteenth century." Archie chuckled.

"That's right," he said, pleasantly surprised that she remembered his name. "I'm terribly sorry I can't put a name to your face though. You'd think I could."

Archie shook her hand with all due courtesy, then stepped back and offered a formal bow. "Now that you mention it, I seem to recall hearing your name at Caritas. My apologies for being so absent-minded; nevertheless, Seras Victoria, I'm pleased to formally meet you."

"I think so, yes," Archie replied, "but I also think that, while I don't need chocolate, I would most certainly like some."

He reached over and picked up several bars of dark chocolate to add to his order, giving Seras a puckish grin as he did.

"That's a very good question," Archie told her. "I haven't heard much of it, honestly, and that's the reason I'm buying this. Veronica wants to get me more up to date on music."

As he fished in his coat pockets for his wallet, he added, "I've liked much of what I've heard so far, but again it isn't much. Although I confess that song about being brave like soldiers . . ." He shuddered a bit.

"Not this particular one," he told her, handing over the money. "Practically the law, eh? Well then, I'll have to make sure I make their acquaintance. It wouldn't do for a Royal Navy officer to be seen flouting the law, now, would it?"

"Lieutenant Kennedy at your service." Archie gave Seras a salute, then nodded and chuckled. "Very much so, thank you. It was a wonderful picnic, and the food was excellent."

Archie pocketed his change and took the bag. "I'll be sure to remember that," he said. "You've been more than helpful, Seras; thank you very much."

Archie saluted her one more time before he turned to leave.

"The pleasure was mine. Perhaps I'll see you at Caritas again sometime soon?"
