Caritas - Open [6/20]

Veronica arrived at work and was surprised that Tino was no where to be found. She looked in the storage room and even poked her head into the apartment, but couldn't find him.

She wondered if she should call GOB or the Troopers.

Shrugging it off, she got everything ready to open. It wasn't usually crowded on Tuesdays, she could handle it.

Honestly, it was Tuesday. And the surprise value of Archie being at Caritas on Tuesdays was about the same as that of the sky being blue.

Though granted, this was Fandom.

"Good evening, lovely and esteemed bartender!"

He was in quite the cheerful mood tonight, apparently.

Veronica made a big show of looking around. "Tino's not here tonight... were you talking to me?"

Archie made an equally big show of looking surprised and then disappointed. "He's not? Oh, damn."

He hopped up onto his usual stool and grinned at Veronica. "Because of course, what else do I come here for but to bask in the glow of Tino's radiant presence?"

"I don't know. It certainly can't be for the drinks. Or the entertainment," Veronica said. "What else could it be besides Tino?"

Archie couldn't help smirking a bit. "Honestly, I can't think of another reason. Except of course you."

Veronica blinked. "Me?" she asked, putting her hand on her chest. "You mean to say that all this time you've been coming in here to see me?"

Archie's only response was to lean over the bar for a kiss.

After a nice, long kiss, Veronica pulled back and grinned. "How are you this fine evening?"

"Never better," Archie declared, jumping off his stool and striking a slightly silly, but dashing, pose. "Yourself?"

Veronica laughed. "I'm doing pretty good. I was a little sore after my lesson from Cameron, but I took a long, hot shower and some painkillers and I'm feeling fine now."

"Well, I'm glad to hear that," he answered as he sat back down. "Are your lessons progressing well?"

"I think so," Veronica said. "So far I've learned how to hit stuff, block hits and fall without hurting myself."

"All excellent skills to have," Archie said. "Particularly the not hurting yourself."

"Well, the learning is a little painful. But it's good incentive to learn how to do it correctly," Veronica said.

"So, what's your poison tonight?"

"I wouldn't mind one of those strawberry concoctions again, but with the alcohol this time," Archie told her. "You're sure you're not hurt?"

Veronica frowned slightly. "Okay, I think I can make one of those. Tino usually does, but I'm pretty sure I know what goes in them."

She gathered the ingredients. "And, yes, I'm fine."

"I have complete faith in your ability to do so," Archie said. He tried not to watch too closely, though, just in case.

"So, did you do anything interesting today?" Veronica asked, filling the blender with ice, daquiri mix and rum in what she hoped were the correct propotions.

"I save all my interesting Tuesday doings for the evenings," Archie replied. "As they are, after all, when I get to report on everyone else's interesting doings."

"Good point," Veronica said, putting the lid on the blender and hitting the button to blend it.

After a couple minutes, she poured the drink in a glass, added an umbrella and set it down in front of Archie.

"Don't be afraid to tell me if it sucks."

Archie took a sip of the daiquiri, but not before taking the umbrella out and playing with it as he usually did.

He swallowed, then took another sip and looked thoughtfully up at the ceiling.

"Well, it definitely has alcohol in it tonight."

Veronica frowned. "Too much? I can add more mix and throw it back in the blender."

Archie laughed. "It's rum. I'm perfectly all right with that, believe me."

"Okay," Veronica said.

"Did you hear the radio last night? I'm glad I decided to stop by and talk to you yesterday."

"I did," Archie said, and added in a mock hurt tone, "but Rory most definitely did take my boat."

He reached over and squeezed Veronica's hands. "I'm glad you were honest with me. You haven't had any backlash from the report on the radio, have you?"

"Yes she did," Veronica nodded.

She squeezed back and shrugged. "Haven't really talked to anyone. Cam was a little cool this morning until I told him what the deal was. But he was glad I took Bel with me and agreed to keep an eye on Tyler. There are a few more people I want to talk to about him, so we'll see."

"Good." Archie nodded. "I don't want anything to happen to you."

"Nothing's going to happen to me," Veronica assured him, though she found his concern touching and, surprisingly, not overprotective.

"Not with the second generation of the 'Protect Veronica' brigade on the watch, I imagine." Archie smiled. "I don't count myself among their ranks as I do trust you to take care of yourself, but to be completely frank, I'm glad they took up that duty."

"Please don't tell them that," Veronica requested. "Otherwise they'll either try to recruit you to their ranks or try to use your approval against me."

She leaned on her elbows and gave him a cheeky grin. "And I guess you can be a little protective," she conceded. "After all, I'd definitely taser anyone that did anything to hurt you."

"I'm honored that I would rate that," Archie teased, but his smile was genuine. "And don't worry, I won't say a word to them."

"Of course you rate that," Veronica said, leaning close enough to kiss him.

Archie reached over and ran his fingers through Veronica's hair as he kissed her. "I'd take a belaying pin to anyone who hurt you too, you know."

Veronica smiled. "Hey, it's quiet tonight. Let's close up early and go back to the dorms. I need to work on my lesson plan for tomorrow."

Archie was already halfway to the sink to grab a cleaning rag by the time he said, "That sounds like a capital idea to me."

It didn't take long to clean up, and Archie held his hand out to Veronica once he had done his part. "Shall we?"

Veronica took his hand. "You know," she said as she locked up behind them. "I'm starting to think you deserve part of my paycheck for helping me every night."

Naturally, they argued about this all the way back to the dorms.
