Caritas, Wednesday Night

Jarod took extra time cleaning and restocking the bar before he opened, since the radio had reported that Caritas had been extremely busy the night before, and he wasn't sure Veronica had had time to get to everything.

As for the zombie band, well, the guitarist and the drummer were throwing brains at each other over the tempo of one of their original songs. The bass player appealed to Jarod to mediate, but it all sounded like grunting to him.

They laughed and pointed at him as he opened the doors. Just for that, Jarod decided they could clean up their own brains.

Hamlet heads to Caritas again tonight, hoping that the crowds and all the supernatural happenings from last night are over. Having one ghost haunting him was weird enough, but seeing all kinds of different people be haunted too was kind of a shock.

"Could I just order a coffee?" he asks the bartender.

"One cream, no sugar, please."

Lyta entered, crossing over to the bar...with Bester in tow. He had lurked behind her most of the afternoon, making snide remarks and taunting her, trying to get a reaction. Her current strategy -- to ignore him -- was beginning to fail as her own barriers became weaker under the onslaught.

She took a seat at the bar, ordering a cup of hot tea, and nodding to Hamlet.

Beside her, Bester leant against the bar. He surveyed the scene around him with a derisive snort.

Hamlet takes his cup of coffee and nods to Lyta. The last time he recalls seeing her, they were both wee, and had an in depth conversation about superheroes from old TV shows. The thought almost makes him smile -- until he notices the strange man standing by her. He takes a deep breath. It looked like whatever the problem was, it wasn't going away on its own.

"And are you being haunted as well?"

"Wait...You can see him?" She blinks. "Other people are having this...problem?"

Haunted had been the fourth option she hadn't been willing to explore.

She loved Fandom. Really.

Hamlet nods. "In the last year or so, I've discovered that I seem to be capable of seeing ghosts. And over the course of last night, I spoke with three other students who were all being haunted by someone they seemed to know, so I would assume that you are not the only one with this problem."

Her relief is almost visible. Bester leans in, his lips close to her ear as he speaks in a low tone, "And you expect these...people... to help you? You're still not one of them, Lyta. You never will be. You should be with your own kind!" He smiles darkly at Hamlet over her shoulder.

Lyta grits her teeth, and keeps her attention on Hamlet. "I don't suppose anyone is working on a solution?" Her tea is getting cold on the counter.

Hamlet notices the ghost's somewhat menacing look, but tries to keep his attention focused on Lyta. If this new ghost is anything like Jack or Mr & Mrs Hayes from last night, he likely doesn't want to know what it's saying.

"I'm not certain. My own problem with ghosts is apparently unrelated to whatever has been going on this week, so I haven't been actively searching others out. You may want to try visiting the library to see if anything is happening there. If there is a search for a solution, that will likely be the place that people would head first to for research."

The library. She wasn't sure she had been there since the beginning of the semester, but if the answer was there, she would certainly make time. "I'll head over there tomorrow. I should probably brush up on my research skills, anyway."

"I cannot guarantee that anyone will be there, but even if they aren't, you may find something to help yourself."

He looked over at the ghost next to Lyta. "Unless you can figure out his unfinished business, or have an exorcism performed."

Lyta grimaced. The problem wasn't necessarily his unfinished business; it was her own. But could you kill a ghost?

"Really, Lyta," Bester interjected, "I thought we were past all that."

She turned and glared at the ghost. "Not on your life."

Bester smirked. He didn't need to say anything else.

Turning to Hamlet, she offered a forced but genuine smile. "Thank you. Maybe I can find some sort of solution to this...problem."
