Caritas - Open [7/2]

Veronica made it to work just before the storms started.

She checked the Zombie Band, had Tino tape the drummer's foot back on and got everything ready to open for the night.



[in theory, I'll be around all evening. in reality? we're having storms and there's a possibility my net or power could get knocked out.]

Lucas had had an interesting day so far. Now? She wanted a drink. So she headed to Caritas.

"Hey, Veronica."

Veronica looked up, not recognizing the voice.

"Hello," she said, her confusion obvious. "What can I get you?"

"Killians." Lucas paused, then shook her head. "No, harder. Vermouth."

"Okay, sure thing," Veronica said, getting the drink and still having no idea who she was serving.

It had not yet occurred to Lucas that she didn't recognize her. She downed the drink quickly and rested her elbows on the bar. "So, how's business?"

"Kind of slow so far, but I haven't had the post up been open long," Veronica replied. "Tuesday was insane."

She wondered how she could figure out who this woman was without seeming rude.

Lucas nodded. "I remember. It was pretty busy." She sighed into her now empty glass. "Wish my place had that kind of business,"

"I don't remember seeing you that night," Veronica said. "But it was kind of busy. Who were you here with?"

"No one, really." Lucas put her head down on the bar counter. She was getting a bit mopey. "My girlfriend left town, so it's just me, most of the time,"

"Oh, who was your girlfriend?" Veronica asked, trying to recall people who had left town lately.

Veronica started pouring the second drink and tried to remember if she'd heard who Elle was dating.

She almost dropped the bottle when she remembered.

"Lucas?!"

"What?" Lucas blinked, then glanced down at her sparkly black mini dress and . . . extra assets. "Right. I woke up this way this morning."

"Did you get a sleeping pill from Nadia?" Veronica asked, sliding the now full glass in front of him... her... Lucas.

Lucas shook her head and sipped the second drink more slowly. "Sleeping pill? No. I just grabbed a painkiller for my headache."

"You sure it was a painkiller?" Veronica asked. "The sleeping pills she got from the clinic a few months ago have the unfortunate side effect of changing a person's gender."

Lucas stared at her for a moment. "You mean like when Marty was a girl that one day?"

Piper decided to stop by for a drink. After last night, she could use one. "Hey Veronica."

Veronica nodded. "Yeah. Nadia spiked his gatorade that day," she explained. "We were trying to get back at him for something."
