Caritas, Monday Evening

Jarod was whistling as he opened Caritas, more than happy to be back to his comforting routine for the night after spending the day with Angelo. Who was very probably Parker's twin brother, but he wasn't thinking about that right now. Compartmentalization was key, especially when he had so many unanswered questions.

The zombie band had taken a musical left turn and were playing zydeco in between requests. Maybe they were feeling homesick.

Joxer almost tripped and fell flat on his face as he got up on the stage. After getting his bearings, he cleared his throat.

"This one goes out to the most wonderful, beautiful girl I know. My girlfriend Kaylee."

And then he sang.

He did a little bow and made his way off the stage, almost tripping over himself again.

Parker's still wearing Rita's glasses, because they amuse her. She folds her hands and tries to look very sober and serious as she sits at the bar. "Milk, please."

"Lemonade?" Parker kept a straight face with a great deal of difficulty.

"If I pour it, you're drinking it," he warned.

Parker snickered. "If the lemonade sucks, I'm sending it back. Otherwise, go ahead." She flipped the glasses up on top of her forehead and perched her chin on her hands. "What, I'm not convincing at Rita, legal secretary extraordinaire?"

Jarod poured the lemonade and placed it in front of Parker. "You're having too much fun," he teased. "No one working as a legal secretary in that era would be that happy."

Parker tried to look disapproving instead of pouty, but it probably didn't work. "I could be happy to have a job? Or, if what I could find on Rita was any indication, I could have a thing for my boss."

"Socrates Poole. And no, I am not making that up. He was a lawyer in San Francisco in 1893. Rita evidently got hired so she could underhandedly steal some papers, or some artifact--- the newspapers aren't clear-- and then got caught, escaped, came back, got caught again, and escaped again. Mostly because she kept *not* shooting him." She grinned. "I didn't know any of this when I started, I just picked her because the photo looked interesting."

Joxer entered Caritas with Kaylee. He was dressed in his best tunic and vest, and had fussed with his hair just a bit, trying to make sure he didn't have helmet-head. He led her to the lounge, so they could have some sort of privacy.

"You look really nice tonight," he said.

Joxer smiled brightly. "I tried to look nice for you, too," he said. "Do you want me to get us something to drink, or should I just stay here for now or do you think maybe there's something else I should be doing?"

He was a little nervous, yes.

"I think you do look nice," Kaylee said with a smile. "And, you can get drinks if you want to."

Then she thought of something else. "This is a karaoke bar. Maybe you could sing for me later."

Joxer nodded. "I'd love to do that," he said. "What do you want to drink?"

"How 'bout a rum and coke," Kaylee replied.

"Rum and coke, got it," Joxer said. He got up and went to the bar, getting his drinks from Tino and hurrying back, amazingly managing to not spill anything.

"I got one too," he said. "I figure if you like 'em I should too."

"They are pretty good," Kaylee said, taking a sip. "So, how was your weekend?"

"Pretty quiet," Joxer said. "I got my armor all cleaned up, oh, and a I spent a lot of time polishing off my helmet. How about you?"

She smiled. "I missed you."
