Caritas, Saturday evening

Greg opened Caritas for the very first time. He was a bit excited.

That said, he was also a bit wary of any snakes who might have decided to stick around, so he had brought a kazoo for snake-charming purposes, just in case.

He'd also swiped a quick skin - if one could call the decomposing flesh that the band sported 'skin' - sample when he'd reattached the drummer's arm. Tomorrow would be a fun lab day, between this and what Jarod had passed along for him.

Jack had stopped at the bar to grab two beers from Tino - bottles, one unopened - before heading to the lounge. He studied it, then chose a seat from which he could see the entire bar. Slouched low into the chair, deliberately relaxing as he drank, he waited for the man with answers to show up.

"Jack Harkness?" The man who approached him had a vaguely European accent, and sharp eyes watching around them. "You came alone. I'm pleased you're taking this seriously.

Jack tensed, instantly suspicious, glancing briefly towards the front of the bar. "You are not the person I talked to on the phone."

"My apologies, but no." A quick half-bow, and an amused, considering smile. "You may call me Kelso. My associate, Mr. Levin, felt it would be better if I approached you first. He had a few arrangements to conclude before we could contact you with our information. May I?" He asked, indicating the chair across from Jack.

Be my guest. Kelso." Jack smirked, not believing for one second that it was the guy's real name. "So what can you do for me?" he asked bluntly, letting his eyes travel appreciatively over him. "And is there anything I can do for you?"

A feline smile, slightly smug, then Kelso sobered just enough to look serious. "We have information about your employment-- and deal -- with Torchwood. In exchange? Well." He opened his arms in an aimless shrug. "We'd like to know what you may find out as well. We're trying to bring them down, you see. And we feel, from what we've learned, you might be interested. Based on what we know about you."

Jack digested that in silence, deliberately taking a leisurely pull on his beer. "I'm interested. Very interested." A suggestive smile became a sly grin as he licked an errant drip off the neck of the bottle and said, "But this isn't the place to talk about it. Sit down. Relax. Have a drink," he pointed at the unopened beer on the table next to them.

He was briefly grateful for years of experience that had turned flirting into a reflex. Get him interested, keep him interested, and he'd have some sort of leverage, something to even the balance of power.

Mr. Kelso looked briefly disconcerted, then relaxed, his smile growing warmer in return. "Quite. In actuality, Mr. Levin knows rather more than I do. He was with the organization longer." He shook his head, studying Jack. "They're not at all what they represent themselves to be to outsiders." He reached for the beer and twisted the top off. "But then, I suppose you know that."

"No one ever is, Kelso. No one ever is." He leaned back in his chair, stretching out his legs so they brushed against Kelso's. "So who are you pretending to be?"

"We are currently using the identities of two freelancers who are providing information and leads to a contact of Torchwood's. Off-planet goods, and the like. Harmless, but it keeps us in touch as well as in cash," he rubbed his thumb and fingers together, smiling. His eyes didn't leave Jack's as he stretched his own legs out, bumping his foot. "With your information, and ours, we should have a good stab at finding out information vital to taking down one of their suppliers. Soon."

"Clever. Very clever." Jack acknowledged the touch with a flashing grin, and let his foot rest heavily against Kelso's. "If what I've heard about that place is true, I think I'd be happy to contribute." His lips tightened as, momentarily elsewhere, he remembered what he'd been told in a dingy bar in Mexico.

They have a motto. 'If it's alien, it's ours.'

His nostrils flared as he shook himself free of memory and summoned his grin. "I'm always happy to join in."

"Excellent! Mr. Levin, as I said, was with them longer, and has the documentation of your-- acquisition?" Kelso said delicately. "Photos, a datafile or two. Plus the agreements you signed at the time of your recruitment." He raised his eyebrows, looking serious. "We could possibly arrange for those documents to be buried very, very deep, if all goes well."

"That would be good." He'd still know, deep down inside, that he'd sold himself. But if he could have a chance to make amends, and to make the evidence disappear... "That would be very good." Jack drained his beer and set the bottle down on the table with a thunk. "Not that I don't trust you," and he bared his teeth in something like a smile, "but I need to see this 'documentation' for myself."

"Our boat is at the docks, and the documentation is intact." Kelso leaned back and seemingly-accidentally bumped his knee against Jack's, his mouth quirking to the side. "We could... explore our options?... there. Mr. Levin has other business tomorrow, and we'll be leaving in the morning." He took a sip of his beer, eyes narrowing. "But sealing our association before then would mean certain actions could be put in motion."

Jack grinned slyly as Kelso's knee touched his, and he slid his foot blatantly up Kelso's calf as he sat up straight. "I think that exploring our options sounds like an excellent way to spend a Saturday night." Somewhere in the back of his head he could Parker telling him not to be an idiot, but he ignored it. "I think if what you have to show me measures up to what you've promised," another sly grin, "we can take steps to seal our association."

"Splendid." Kelso straightened, apparently all business, but his eyes were sparkling. "No time like the present, although the Time Agency would tell you differently." He indicated the door. "Shall we?"

Jack nodded and stood up, walking towards the door. He paused, looking back over his shoulder, and hesitated, the voice in his head sounding louder, but the moment passed, and he led the way outside, turning towards the docks (http://community.livejournal.com/fandomtownies/1028468.html).
