Sea caves: Wee Hours of Sunday Morning

Jack - the older one, Captain Jack - sat on the floor of the cave, staring at himself. His younger self had barely moved and he couldn't touch him; all he could do was wait.

There must be someone on this island that would come and get him, even if Jack, in his drug addled state, hadn't thought there was. And if not, he'd take him back to the Hub. Gwen wouldn't report him, and she'd be able to treat his injuries without creating a paradox that would make one - or both - of them disappear.

His first thought, as he stirred and was immediately assailed by an aching body and a pounding head, was that it must have been one hell of a party.

"Good morning." He grinned as a hand appeared from the lump under his coat and his younger self started to wake up.

And no one should sound that cheerful when he felt this bad. He met a pair of bright blue eyes that looked disturbingly familiar. It all came rushing back. "Oh."

"Feeling any better?" He set the device he'd been working on to one side, and looked him over carefully. "You look a little better."

"Yeah." He raked a hand through his hair, feeling every bruise, every scrape, and groaned. "Yeah, I guess. How long have I been out?"

"About an hour. The sun's still a long way off."

Jack rubbed his eyes and stretched awkwardly. "I have to get home."

"Think you can walk on your own?"

"Yeah." He stood up, the coat slipping to the ground, wobbled, and sat back down abruptly. "Maybe not."

He nodded and turned his attention back to the phone, pacing towards the front of the caves and looking out over the ocean while he waited for her to answer.

"Parker. At... oh my god, how early is this?"

"Depends on when you went to bed. And who with," he laughed, greatly amused, and glanced over at Jack who was watching him intently. "I don't suppose you're missing a Jack, are you?"

Parker scrambled to her feet, furious with herself for having fallen asleep. "You are *not* funny, whoever the hell you are. Let me talk to Jack this instant or so help me God, I'll have this call traced in five minutes and your ass delivered to me wrapped in a nice red bow. Got it?"

He pulled the phone away from his ear and stared at it, eyebrows raised. Covering the mouthpiece, he walked back and crouched in front of Jack. "She's a spitfire, isn't she?"

Jack stared up at him, slumping wearily and pulling the coat back over his legs. "You have no idea."

Snickering, he lifted the phone to his ear. "My ass would look gorgeous in a red bow, but this really isn't the time. Maybe later, but for the moment, I've got a Jack here, a bit battered but still as good as new, if you want to come and claim him."

Parker frowned into the phone, wondering why this joker sounded familiar, then snapped, "No deals, no considerations, until you put Jack on the line. Whatever you want, you'll get." She took a breath. "And if you renege, there are several people willing to help me hide your body."

Captain Jack wasn't sure what caught his attention. A noise, something that wasn't right, and he was on his feet, gun drawn, standing between Jack and the cave mouth.

Suddenly wishing he'd moved them somewhere more defensible.

Sam almost swore out loud as she felt the stick break under her foot and crept closer to the entrance of the cave, zat up and ready to fire as she crouched low.

Cedric stays back behind Sam, eyes scanning and wand held at the ready. He avoid light just because it would give away position but he's got a spell or two that he thinks will help. Right now, he just watches and makes sure Sam's covered.

Parker's bringing up farther behind, gun out already, and she stifles a groan as Sam steps on a stick. Thank god they have options other than shooting, though-- the last thing they want is Jack caught in deadly crossfire. Sam had insisted on going first, and given the 'zat, Parker could see why. But she was looking forward to kicking Phone Guy's ass.

Moving slowly, one hand raised and ready to blast, the other holding the first aid kit, Isabel brought up the rear.

Jack sat up straighter, staring at...himself. "What?" He spotted the gun and tried to stand up, with limited success. "Hey. You don't need that. Parker's...actually, she might hurt me, and you, but you don't need the gun."

He raised a hand, glancing down. "No. There's something..." Head tipped to the side, his eyes narrowed. "There's more than one person out there."

Sam crept forward into the cave, staying low and close to the wall. She stood up and popped the zat when she spotted the man and his gun. "Lower the gun and step away from Jack if you don't want to feel thousands of volts running through your body."
