Caritas [Sunday Evening]

Greg opened up Caritas, mulling over the conversation from earlier in the day with his school-appointed and very grumpy little brother.

He whistled as he started to reassemble the band, and then took his place behind the bar and waving cheerfully to Jarod on the other side of the bar.

Lorne give V another peck on the cheek and Archie a firm handshake. "Just remember to name your first born after me. Krevlornswath Mars-Kennedy has a nice ring to it. But I'll leave you two be. Mwah!"

Archie looked just a touch pale after that pronunciation. "First born?" he repeated to Veronica with a half-embarrassed, half-uncertain laugh.

Veronica looked horrified at the concept of having children.

"... I have no words," she admitted.

"You know him better than I," Archie replied; between the two of them, their facial expressions were probably a comedic masterpiece in still-life. "Can we dismiss it as just a case of Lorne being Lorne?"

"I think that's a fabulous idea," Veronica agreed quickly.

She took a moment to look around and then sighed. "I'm going to miss this place."

Archie wrapped his arms around her with a sigh of his own. "So many Tuesday and Thursday nights spent here . . . I'll miss it too."

"I love you too," Archie murmured into her hair as he pulled her closer. "I'm glad we stopped by here before we left. It wouldn't have been right otherwise."

"Neither do I, but we knew it would have to happen sometime," Archie said softly. He'd been living in some hazy awareness of the reality of their departure for several days now, but suddenly it was very, very real to him. "At least we're going together."

"And we get to spend a week together in Paris," Veronica said.

She sighed. "This has hands down been the best year of my life, even with all the bad stuff that happened."

"Same here," Veronica replied with a smile. "I guess we should go so we don't miss our flight."

Archie meant it as a joke, but it came out sounding more plaintive than he'd realized.

"Do you want to skip Paris so we can have another week here?" Veronica asked. She was mostly joking.

"I would say yes except we already posted that we left. I'm very, very tempted," Archie said. He was entirely serious.

"So am I," Veronica admitted. "But that means we'd have to say goodbye to all our friends again next week."

"So," she said, taking his hand. "We should go."

Archie nodded and laced his fingers through hers. "Goodbye, you strange and wonderful town," he murmured before turning toward the door.

"Wait a sec," Veronica said, stopping him before he got to the door.

She smiled up at him and tugged him close. "One last kiss here."

"You romantic," Archie laughed as he wrapped his arms around Veronica and leaned down to kiss her gently.

Archie lingered near the door for another minute or so, looking around the place one last time. "I'm ready," he said finally, and took hold of her hand again. "On to Paris?"
