Caritas [Sunday Evening]

Greg opened up Caritas, mulling over the conversation from earlier in the day with his school-appointed and very grumpy little brother.

He whistled as he started to reassemble the band, and then took his place behind the bar and waving cheerfully to Jarod on the other side of the bar.

Phoebe sat back down and ran a hand through her hair. "Where do I even start?" she sighed. "First, there was the whole waking up with horrible premonitions that I couldn't decipher about people getting hurt and not knowing who I needed to warn."

Taking the stool next to her, Wilson grabbed his drink and settled in to just be an ear for a few minutes, letting her bring him up to speed with what had been going on in her life.

She dropped her voice. "Then I found Cole and Blair in bed on Thursday morning..."

*Choke!*

Wilson coughed as well aged single malt scotch went down the wrong pipe. Hitting himself in the chest a couple of times to help settle his annoyed lungs, he looked over at Phoebe with large dark eyes.

"I'm sorry, uh...in bed with Blair? Blair Sandburg? About...yay tall, bouncy brown hair, bouncy and distinctly male bits?"

Phoebe nodded slowly. "They were set up but at the time..." Phoebe closed her eyes because the scene she had walked into still was burned into her brain. "They didn't really do anything but the three of us were made to believe that they had."

Dark eyebrows arched upwards and Wilson frowned.

"That's...rather a nasty little trick to play upon people. I'm glad that you three were able to sort it out, however."

She looked up at him and it was obvious that it still was hurting her.

"I don't know who would want to hurt us like that, but I'm betting if Cole finds out about it there will be much crankiness."

She forced a smile. "Did I mention I was a mermaid two weeks ago?"

"Ah, yes... Bel gives good cranky." Wilson agreed with a nod, which paused halfway in the bob of his head as he looked over at Phoebe.

"Mer...err...noooh, I don't think I heard about that?"

She nodded. "A spell backfired and turned me into a mermaid. I forgot what it was like to be human, started forgetting about caring for people and tried to give in to the call of the ocean and swim out to sea."

Wilson sipped from his glass and gave her a pointed look.

"Siblet...with the reputation fandom has for back firing spells, I'm surprised you tried it. Remember the time somebody did something and Angel got all lovey dovey with...everybody?"

Phoebe sighed and nodded. "It was stupid, but when the one you love is lying to you and shutting you out for awhile, you get desperate and deeply hurt and my try something dumb like... an open minds spell?"

Groaning softly, Wilson cupped his face in both hands and gave his head a gentle shake.

"Oh, Phoebe dear." Stroking his hands down his face, he looked at her with affectionate sternness. "Bel, loves you. Sometimes, you've got to embrace a little bit of Faith. It's not easy but the easy way out is often a lot harder and much more frought with subterfuge."

"He was keeping something from me, James," she said quietly. "Being honest with me is what broke the spell." She shook her head. "It's quite the story. I was a mermaid for about a week."

Lowering his hand, Wilson looked over at Phoebe and smiled a little ruefully.

"So, other than being a mermaid, Bel sleeping, platonically, with Blair and the unfortunate return of your sister home, how are you holding up? You ready for a new semester?"
