33 Apocalypse Avenue [evening]

V, beckoned by the occasional stirrings he heard above his head, had finally emerged from his basement.

He was perched on the edge of the sofa in the living room in an attempt to be both unobtrusive and semi-social, and was alternately sifting through his only two sources of literature at the moment: the - appropriately enough - "V" volume of the Encyclopaedia Britannica, which he'd found in an alley the night of his arrival, and the strange packet addressed to him that he had ~~yay handwavey~~ found outside his basement window that morning.

After he finished arranging his garage area, The Tick wandered into the living room, eager to meet his new housemates. "Hello, chums!"

That would be the guy in the blue suit. "Evening."

"Good evening to you, too! I am The Tick!" Tick said by way of introductions.

"I'm Thursday Next. Pleased to meet you, Mr The Tick. Or is it Mr Tick?"

"Just The Tick. Or Tick. Or Dean Tick. Titles, articles, they're all just leaves on the tree of naming anyway!" Tick said.

Thursday nodded. "Call me Thursday. You're the Dean of Students?"

"I am indeed, Thursday!" Tick said. "I used to teach Criminal Justice, but then I got a promotion." He seemed so proud about that.

"Interesting subject. I'm in law enforcement myself. Or was. I've taken a leave of absence from that line of work. I take it from the suit that you're a superhero of some description?"

Considering all of the characters around here, she really had to wonder if this place was real or if she had somehow read herself into a crossover book or ended up in the Well of Lost Plots.

"Technically I'm a former superhero, but I still dabble where necessary," Tick said. "Law enforcement really is a bicycle, but with rockets on it. You never forget how to ride and then you're being propelled by rockets!"

Thursday paused, not entirely sure what rockets were, but then she was going to have to get used to not understanding everything people said here. "Good analogy. It's hard to escape, even when you're on a sabbatical. Do you intend to go back to it or are you interested in a permanent career change?"

"Good evening," V said quietly. "Are you one of our housemates to whom I've been so rude as to neglect introducing myself?"

"I am indeed, chum!" Tick said, in a rather booming voice. "I am The Tick!"

"Consider it my very sincere delight to meet you...The Tick. I'm known as V," he replied.

"Wait. Mask. Snazzy hat. Keen name not commonly used among most people..." Tick put two and two together and got a number that didn't look terribly dissimilar to four. "Are you a superhero, too?"

V considered this. "I suppose I shall be called a hero by some though I've never considered myself as such," he mused. "And while 'super' is a slightly more grandiose term than I'd select to describe my own abilities, it could be considered accurate. So to answer your question, sir - yes, if you would like to think so, but it's not a title I'd ever select."

"Keen!" Tick said. "Do you have powers?"

"Powers?" he repeated. "...possibly. Do you?"

"I'm nigh-invulnerable and have super-strength," Tick said. He had never learned about giving dangerous people information that could be used against him since that information had always failed to be successfully used against him."

V nodded slowly. "I suppose I have powers, then," he agreed.

"Evening, Tick. Finding the garage to your liking?" Logan asked.

"Hello, Logan!" Tick said. "The garage is very nice indeed! I'll need to get some insulation up before the winter, but it works very nicely for me!"

"I'm glad to hear it," he said, grinning. "How long have you been in Fandom, by the way? Are you new to the Dean of Students position?"

"I'll have been here for a year as of late next month," TIck said. "And I've been Dean since early summer when the previous Dean left. He was a floating head in a tube."

"Congratulations." Logan frowned. "A head? How did he do any paperwork? Or is the school entirely computer based?"

"He had a robot," Tick said, casually.
