33 Apocalypse Avenue [evening]

V, beckoned by the occasional stirrings he heard above his head, had finally emerged from his basement.

He was perched on the edge of the sofa in the living room in an attempt to be both unobtrusive and semi-social, and was alternately sifting through his only two sources of literature at the moment: the - appropriately enough - "V" volume of the Encyclopaedia Britannica, which he'd found in an alley the night of his arrival, and the strange packet addressed to him that he had yay handwavey found outside his basement window that morning.

[Open to housemates or invited guests, yay!]

"Good for you," Thursday said. "I work for the government sometimes. Not the same as yours, though. I hope you won't hold it against me. I actually helped bring down a large corporation that was trying to turn itself into a religion and take over the world. Seems they weren't satisfied with England alone."

"My name is somewhat complicated. Technically, I'm Mrs Parke-Laine, but I chose to keep my maiden name, so I go by Ms Next, but please call me Thursday. If we're going to be living together I imagine that titles will get tedious rather quickly. But yes, Goliath tried to incorporate themselves into a religion. It didn't really work out for them."

"Hundreds of thousands, but largely due to a marketing campaign that restored their image and a device that altered brain waves and made people compliant. I doubt that the world would have been a pleasant place if they succeeded."

"That sounds a lot like how Goliath got started. After the occupation ended in '49, the country needed someone to step up. Goliath helped the economy and stabilised the region that the Germans had all but ruined. They stayed in power on that reputation. They made the public believe that the country couldn't survive without them. It worked for a long time."
