All and Sundries, 8/29

Edmund opened the store for the first time in days. His ~~minions~~ employees were more efficient than he'd expected. For some reason he found that vaguely irritating.

Baldrick was still spouting propaganda and bad singing about throwing off the chains of oppression, rising up, and "from each according to his means, to each according to his knees."

He hated whomever had given Baldrick that picture book on communism.

All and Sundries is open.

Ivanova entered the shop with her normal morning offerings of coffee and pastries and skirted Baldrick with a raised eyebrow and a small shake of her head. One of the large takeaway cups hit the counter in front of Blackadder and she announced without preamble, "I'm leaving tomorrow."

"So soon?" It's possible Edmund was quite disappointed. If he was, it wasn't showing much.

Ivanova let out a short laugh. "Soon? I stay away much longer and I'll end up court-martialled for dereliction of duty."

Edmund picked up the coffee and ~~hid behind the cup~~ took a long swallow of the too-hot beverage.

"Will you be coming back again?"

Ivanova smirked. "You saw how well staying away worked out last time. I'm pretty sure I'll be back."

"Good!" Edmund grimaced at how much he sounded like a smitten schoolboy and tried again in a more normal tone, "Good. There are few enough people worth speaking with here without your leaving for good."

Ivanova laughed. "Thank you, Edmund. I'm pretty sure that was a compliment." She sobered a little bit. "You know that you can call me, right? I'm not completely unreachable."

"I didn't know that," Edmund said. "How can I do that?"

"Don't ask me how it works, but the communications gear at the station can access my Fandom voicemail - here, I'll give you the number." She looked around for something to write on.

Edmund passed over an A&S business card and a pen. "You are also welcome to call me, of course."

Calling a space station? How mind boggling.

Ivanova quickly wrote down the number (http://community.livejournal.com/fh_alumni/1675.html) and handed it back with a smile. "I'll try. Things can get a little crazy up there, but I'll try."

Practice safe modding, please. There's a sink and soap by the door.
