Imperial Junkyard, Thursday morning

For a change, Walter was only there for a workout and not violence therapy. He'd found another part of the junkyard that looked like it could use some clearing and was starting some wire practice.

His ribs complained at first, but once he was warmed up, he didn't notice, lost in a dance of precise destruction that was as close to meditation as he was likely to ever get.

[ooc: Open, but the sounds of falling metal and whipping wire would hopefully alert your character to walk cautiously before walking in where Walter's "working." I don't want him to cut any precious bits off of anyone.]

"No," Walter went to pick up his water bottle. "I do it for practice."

John quirked an eyebrow.

"And, does it make perfect?"

He wasn't getting any magic vibes off this kid, so...

"Better all the time," Walter said, pulling a pack of cigarettes out of his waistcoat. "What brings you to the junkyard?"

John shrugged.

"Curiosity," he replied, releasing a mouthful of smoke.

"Has it been satisfied?" Walter asked, locating his lighter and taking a drag off his cigarette.

John shrugged.

"Still here, ain't I?"

Walter raised an eyebrow. "What are you still curious about?"

John flicked his fag end onto the ground, stepped on it and immediately lit another. The sequence was done with practised ease.

"What you use those wires on apart from hunks of metal?"

"Around here, the occasional monster. Back home, vampires and Nazis," Walter said. "And for fun, I use them to jump off the roof with my friends."

"Playing chicken with gravity's your idea of fun, then?"

John's tone was skeptical, though not entirely disapproving. He made no comment about the vampires, monsters, or Nazis.

Walter smirked. "Among other things, yes."

"Not what I would've expected from a kid wearing two thirds of a three piece suit."

"Yeah, well, if something I'm hunting underestimates me like that, that's just to my advantage, isn't it?"

John smirked.

"You make habit of displaying your 'advantages' for all the world to see?"

Walter shrugged. "This isn't my hunting ground, and I have to practice somewhere."

John quirked an eyebrow.

"So...you're a vampire hunter, but you've gone to school to a place where you can't practise anything that's really like vampire hunting. That...makes no bloody sense at all."

"That's exactly it. My employer does things for his own reasons," Walter said sourly.

"Any clue what those might be?"

Yeah, he was being nosy, but the kid had brought it up.

The one idea Walter did have, and which he didn't like, he certainly wasn't going to share with this guy at this time.

"No," he lied, not bothering to make a good job of it.

John made a deft, small movement with his hand and then unfurled his fingers, offering a cigarette to Walter.

"You could quit. Go home and be a free-lance vampire hunter."

Walter took the cigarette and lit it, nodding his thanks to John.

Leave Hellsing and the knowledge that his bloodthirsty tendencies were put to good use? Leave Alucard? Not even on the menu. "I don't know where you're from, but where I'm from there haven't been freelancers in England since 1897."

"Be a trend setter. You're supposed to be 'damn good', after all."

Walter shook his head, blowing smoke in the air. "I like what I do, and if my employer's a bit of a nutter, it comes with the territory."
