Caritas, Monday Evening

Jarod opened the bar, having slept better this weekend than he had in months. It was unfortunate that he hadn't heard about the missing girl until last night and hadn't known help with a search was needed, but at least she'd been found and it sounded like she was safe.

He put on some low jazz, dimmed the lights, brewed the coffee, and settled in for a mellow night. One of the zombies was even playing a great string bass. Probably better not to ask what he'd used to string it, though.

El showed up halfway the night and climbed onto the stage with his guitar. He spoke with the zombies and convinced them to take five for a moment.

Alone on the stage, he took his guitar lovingly from it's case, tuned it a bit, and launched into a haunting guitar solo (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=TDLL8R5I). He bowed when finished, placed his guitar in its case, and walked to the bar.

Coffee was all very good, but sometimes a man wanted something harder. So John was checking out the local bar tonight.

"Beer's fine," John said. "Whatever you've got on tap."

"Thanks." John took a drink and looked around. "You have a zombie band," he observed.

John gave a little laugh and shook his head. "I thought I knew how strange this place was going to be..."

"Considering that my housemates include two guys in masks and one in blue spandex costume with antennae, I would have to agree with that," John said with a wry grin. "John Winchester."

Re: The Bar

John nodded. "He certainly has his own way of looking at things, but it's not a bad way."

Re: The Bar

"And then," John continued taking another long drink, "the dodo."

Re: The Bar

[identity profile] demons-death.livejournal.com 2006-09-05 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
"One of my other housemates has one for a pet."

Re: The Bar

[identity profile] demons-death.livejournal.com 2006-09-05 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
John nodded. "As far as I know. And yet."

After his set, El sat down next to John at the bar. He nodded. "Buenos noches."

John nodded at the other man. "'Evening."

El ordered a soda from Tino. "How are you this night?"

[identity profile] guitar-and-gun.livejournal.com 2006-09-05 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
El shrugged. "First day of classes. I'm just glad I didn't completely screw it up."

Re: The Bar

[identity profile] demons-death.livejournal.com 2006-09-05 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
John smiled faintly. "My class isn't until Wednesday so I still have a couple of days to worry about it."

El shook his head. "Teaching may be the scariest thing I have ever had to face," he said. He turned to look at John. "And if you knew anything about my life, you'd realize how incredibly scary that must be."

Re: The Bar

[identity profile] demons-death.livejournal.com 2006-09-05 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
"It's a little... daunting, but I don't think I can rank it as the scariest thing. Not unless I end up with a class full of demon's wanting to eat my face."

Re: The Bar

[identity profile] guitar-and-gun.livejournal.com 2006-09-05 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
El was growing past the point of being surpised by hearing things like demons. "Perhaps I am exaggerating," he said. "But teaching is... different. Very different. It's harder to compose a song than it is to pull a trigger. And harder still to teach someone else to compose."

Work hadn't exactly been difficult for Chad, but it just seemed wrong not to finish his first day off with a beer. "Corona, please; no lime."

Re: The Bar

[identity profile] senor-chado.livejournal.com 2006-09-05 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
Chad sighed; they always added the lime. "Thanks," he muttered, regardless, and took a swig.

Alec gestured to the room as he stepped inside with Weiss. "Welcome to Caritas, where they don't card and the house band smells like death." He gave his Little Brother a quick grin as he lead the way over to the bar itself. "It seems to come with being a zombie though."

"Zombies. Does this island come complimentary with them or are they imported?"

Re: The Bar

[identity profile] x5-alec.livejournal.com 2006-09-05 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
"If they're not indigenous, then it's at least a highly rated vacation spot for them," Alec said, as he waved the bartender over to order a couple tequilas. "So where'd you come from, Eric?"

Re: The Bar

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/weissguy_/ 2006-09-05 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
"Los Angeles." He popped a couple of bar peanuts into his mouth. "You?"

Re: The Bar

[identity profile] x5-alec.livejournal.com 2006-09-05 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
"Seattle, but a few years from now." He leaned on the bar, thanking Tino as he came by with their shots. "Haven't missed it too much except when it was really damn hot this summer."

Re: The Bar

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/weissguy_/ 2006-09-05 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
"Future, huh?" Weiss took a shot down. "The future. I'll tell you something, Alec. This place is freaking me out just a little more than I'm letting on. I mean, zombies, mutants, guys from the future, gremlins... It's all a lot to take in."

Re: The Bar

[identity profile] x5-alec.livejournal.com 2006-09-05 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
"It is," he agreed, matching Weiss' shot and signalling Tino for another round. "Fandom's just a place where all the weird kind of gathers." Alec gave Weiss an appraising look. "You're not denying everything, or freaking out at all though."

Re: The Bar

[identity profile] x5-alec.livejournal.com 2006-09-05 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
"No." Alec grinned. "Not that it stops some people."

Re: The Bar

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/weissguy_/ 2006-09-05 05:06 am (UTC)(link)
"Okay, then." Weiss downed another newly arrived shot of tequila. "Then freaking out is not on the daily to-do."

Re: The Bar

[identity profile] x5-alec.livejournal.com 2006-09-05 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
Alec toasted Weiss with his glass before matching him again. "Just a waste of energy - you might need it for the tentacle monster at the camp grounds, or the giant squid that's supposed to live around here somewhere."

He smiled, setting the empty glass on the bar. "Good thing is? Everyone pulls together real well if something does come up."
