Selkie Cove: Thursday Morning

Lana found herself up early this morning, but without work or classes until after lunch. after talking with Marie about Selkie's Cove last night she found she really missed the peacefulness of it and decided that this lovely cool morning would be a perfect time to go sit on the rocks and watch the waves.

After a stop to grab some chai and a pastry, Lana made her way out to her favorite watching rock. She spread out the blanket she'd brought and made herself comfortable.

Ah... she'd missed this.

[OOC: Absolutely open. Feel free to come chat or commune with Lana or find yourself another rock entirely to sit on. :) ]

Billy had seen a map of the island and thought "rocky bits" sounded like a good place to work on his balance.

He found a good, narrow, sturdy looking rock, and perched atop it. After finding his balance, he removed his artificial leg, and stood on his one foot, hands pressed together in front of him, his eye closed.

Billy opened his eyes after a moment and stared out at the water, then spotted Lana out of the corner of his eye. Didn't he used to be more alert than this?

In his surprise, his foot slipped. He managed to turn the fall into a controlled one, catching himself with one hand, and turning it into a kind of flip onto the ground. Then his artificial leg followed him off the rock and landed on his head.

"okay, ow."

Billy was slightly ashamed that he'd been surprised in the first place. He imagined that the whole leg hitting him on the head looked rather silly and he didn't have a sense of humor about himself yet.

"Fine," he groused. "Shouldn't have lost my balance like that." He rubbed his head. "Metal leg on head is not a fun combination." he added.

"Billy it is." he said. "And you're Lana. It's okay so far, takes some getting used to, but I guess you know that."

Using the rock as support, he bent down to pick up the leg, and began reattatching it. Which consisted of fitting the stump into the top and tightening some straps.

Once the leg was on, he tested the joints, knee, ankle, and where the toes met the foot. Everything seemed in order. It moved just like a real leg, except that the toes were all one piece.

"How long have you been here?" he asked. "or, did you tell me that already?"

"Wow, you must have seen it all," Billy said, impressed.

Billy smirked a bit. "I do keep waiting for the other shoe to drop."

After Billy

Staring out over the ocean was highly conducive both to deep thoughts and avoiding them. Jack wasn't sure which he was intending when his feet led him to Selkie Cove, but when he spotted who was there before him, he smiled.

Quietly picking his way across the rocks, he stopped beside hers. "Any chance that a beautiful girl might share her rock with a wandering stranger?" he asked. "Even if he comes empty handed?"

"Thank you, though you might come to regret that." Jack climbed up to sit next to Lana and leaned his shoulder against hers. "I didn't mean to startle you."

That surprised a laugh out of Jack. "So what you're saying is if I hadn't startled you, it would have meant something was dreadfully wrong?"

"If that ever happens, I'll know it's time for drastic measures." The breeze drifting off the ocean was cool, and Jack shifted a touch closer and slipped his arm around Lana. "It's a bit brisk," he explained. "I wouldn't want you getting a chill."

Jack smiled as Lana rested her head on his shoulder and decided that this was an excellent way to spend a morning. "And imagine how guilty I'd feel if I let you get sick while I was with you," he pointed out solemnly. "You'd hate to have that on your conscience."

"My feet?" he offered, laughing a little as he settled his arm more firmly around her. "They have a mind of their own sometimes. And I like the ocean. It gives you space to think. Or you can just stare at the waves, if you decide thinking's too much effort."
