The Park, Late Night Tuesday

Ranma was going to walk Mizu then hurry back to boil some water but... the air outside was nice. He hadn't been out all day so he went on a longer walk than he'd figured upon. He ended up in the middle of the park in nearly the same place he'd seen Chad a week ago. He finds himself compelled to sit down to think for a bit. Mizu seemed tucked out after the long walk and Ranma set him in his lap, where the puppy took a prompt nap. Ranma was merely going to wait a few minutes then carry Mizu back. But his eyelids sunk and he was still there asleep, as a she, on the park bench with a puppy in his lap.

Doing the robot in class must have really worn Chad out, because he spent the rest of his day sleeping in his room like a bear in hybernation. His floormates just may have suspected that he was working on a carpentry project from the sawing snores. It was a very good nap, but an all-day nap meant not being able to sleep when night came around.

Chad considered his options. Head to the roof to practise. Head to the common room and maybe watch some of his Carnivorous Kingdom DVDs. Stalk around the bar, then maybe the park for a nice, totally not creepy walk in the middle of the night.

Alcohol? Always won. So, after having a few drinks, he went to walk it off.

It always amazed him how, without fail, he was never the only person in the park in these wee hours. But he did think it was strange that Ranma would be sleeping in the middle of the park like that.

"Oi," Chad gave her shoulder a nudge with a finger, and then took a wide step back, in case of any flailing limps that might result, "pretty girls shouldn't fall asleep on park benches."

Not cute and innocent enough to prevent an evil plan from hatching in his head. "Hey, Mizu," he greeted the dog quietly, and then went to pick the puppy up. From the eager tail wagging, Chad assumed that Mizu recognized him and wasn't going to be too frightened by the sudden behemoth in the dark picking him up. He scritched behind Mizu's ears for good measure before turning him around. He held the dog in front of Ranma's face. "Go on, Mizu; give her kisses."

Even Chad couldn't help grin a little bit at that. He tucked Mizu up against him (his arm made a great doggie ledge) and scritched behind his ears again. "Pretty girls shouldn't fall asleep on park benches," Chad repeated.

Chad wished he could have made his less-than-quick look over Ranma a little less obvious, but...no. No he didn't. It worked well to emphasise his next point.

"You haven't had an anatomy class yet, I take it."

"But out here, you're not, which is why you shouldn't fall asleep on park benches." His pause did the emphasising that his voice did not. "Big, creepy men lurk around these parts at night, I hear."

Dios, even her ignorance to his joke was cute. Although, in Ranma's defense, he didn't really give her much to indicate that it was a joke and yes, he was refering to himself.

Chad turned his attention to Mizu, continuing the ear scritches while pressing the tip of his figner against the puppy's nose. "He seems to be doing better," Chad noted, feeling very relieved.

"Babbling?" Chad always figured dogs barked, not babbled.

[identity profile] senor-chado.livejournal.com 2006-09-13 06:48 am (UTC)(link)
"So you, like...speak dog now?"

[identity profile] senor-chado.livejournal.com 2006-09-13 06:51 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh." Chad looked at Mizu again, thoughtfully.

"Does he bark with a Japanese accent?"

[identity profile] senor-chado.livejournal.com 2006-09-13 06:58 am (UTC)(link)
Chad was gonna take that as a no. And another case of Ranma having no sense of humour.

"Well," he said, with a shrug of his shoulders and turning back to Mizu. "I like you, too," there was a pause as he poked the puppy's nose again before he added, "Mizu."

He looked back to Ranma. "How would you say that in dog?" Or would it be Dog with a capital D? Something to ponder later.

Oh. My. GOD. She actually did it, and Chad had now managed to get a very cute girl to bark at him on request. He was dying....just dying inside. This was some crazy shit right here.

There was no way Chad was going to bark, though. He did grunt, "Huh," and tried not to think of what other crazy, fucked-up kinky shit Ranma might be into.

"I believe you," Chad said, and he did. "I just think I'll stick to what I already know."

[identity profile] senor-chado.livejournal.com 2006-09-13 07:25 am (UTC)(link)
Indeed it does. But Chad is a little confused as to what exactly it would be that Ranma was smiling at. Pride, perhaps, at her Dog-language mastery? Or just general cute acceptance of his lack of desire to pick it up? It didn't really matter, of course, because a smile was a vast improvement from where the conversation began.

So Chad smiled back. A bit. Briefly. Maybe? There was a fleeting but warm curve upwards in the corners of his mouth for a moment that could definately have constitutated a smile. "So, you plan on just staying out here all night?"
